What are you up to this weekend? On my end, I’m still easing back into things, and plan to spend the weekend working a new jigsaw puzzle, walking the dog, and reading several hundred pages. I hope you have something to look forward to these next few days, and that this collection of interesting reads and favorite things meets you where you are.
May your weekend be filled with grace, peace, rest, and good books.
My favorite finds from around the web:
Sara Bareilles to Score Stage Adaptation of Meg Wolitzer’s ‘The Interestings’. (The Hollywood Reporter) A fascinating choice for Bareilles’s next project.
Hallmark recasts ‘Sense and Sensibility’ and debuts other Austen-inspired films. (NPR) I’m surprised Hallmark didn’t do this sooner.
I just started this 2,000 piece puzzle. Pretty sure this is the biggest I’ve ever worked. The size isn’t the most convenient, but I couldn’t pass those beautiful colors by.
40 Years of the ‘Footloose’ Soundtrack. (Shondaland) Sorry not sorry if those songs are stuck in your head now.
The books I reach for during SAD season. (MMD) Team member Shannan offers a reading list plus helpful tips for dealing with the winter blues. Such good thoughts, followed by a wonderful comments section.
Have you seen the Target x Rifle Paper Co. collab? The colors of this candlestick and taper collection are perfect for my living room (I’m a Garden Party fan), these decorative storage boxes couldn’t be cuter, and this rolling desk chair would be the happiest addition to a home office.
An Ode to Acknowledgements. (Literary Hub) This essay captures so much of what I love about the acknowledgements section, which I also read first.
What to Buy (and Skip) at Trader Joe’s This Winter. (Bon Appétit) The opening cracked me up: “I recently had a yoga teacher who said something like, remember that everything you need you already have, and I can’t help but think she’d never been to Trader Joe’s.” This review is kind of cranky, which may help you shop with moderation in mind.
Vashti Harrison’s Caldecott Win: Kind of a ‘Big’ Deal. (Publishers Weekly) So happy for her!
Tortured Poets’ or Poets? Taylor Swift Meets the Apostrophe Police. (New York Times gift link) I’d love to know if Grammar Girl Mignon Fogarty ever thought she’d get a call to weigh in on the new Taylor Swift album.
Hygge books for cozy winter reading. (What Should I Read Next) Comfort reads for when the temperatures drop.
We’re devoted fans of Living Proof dry shampoo at my house. It’s hard to score a sale on this brand, but Living Proof products—including their classic Perfect Hair Day dry shampoo—are included in Target’s Buy 1, Get One Free sale on selected Ulta Beauty minis right now, along with offerings from Benefit, Too Faced, Clinique, Anastasia Beverly Hills, and more.
25 Books by Black Authors You Should Read This February. (Oprah Daily) A great mix of newer books and backlist titles.
How to Turn Anything into Soup. (Cup of Jo) Great tips.
End your reading slump with these short novels and novellas. (MMD) Short books that pack a big punch.
Don’t miss these posts:
50 engrossing and adorable rom com books and movies for your Valentine’s weekend. Perfect pairings!
Flourless chocolate cake. This has long been our go-to chocolate cake recipe.
25 expansive stories that follow a character across decades. How many times have you wished you could stay with a beloved character a bit longer?
Have a good weekend!

Everyone knows I love all things from the MMD. However, I don’t like when the links aren’t accessible without a subscription. I would have loved to read the Trader Joe’s article.
Weird, I had no problem, I mean a TON of ads came up but I struggled through them.
A big ad asking you to subscribe pops up, but you can close it and read the article.
The rifle paper co x target taper candles were an immediate add to cart for me. I have the juniper forest set on my kitchen table now and I also bought the hydrangea set because I couldn’t decide.
Loved the desk chair, I want to redo my whole office for it!
Love that puzzle, even if I wouldn’t ever attempt!! LOL!!!
This is always my favorite post of the weekend (along with BC’s Sunday Dispatch). Thanks for always finding such interesting reads!
Yes, same. I find out about so many interesting things from Anne’s posts. If you like these kind of posts, Joy the Baker has one weekly called “Let it Be Sunday” that is similar.
Who is BC?
I can answer this one! Lisa is referring to the Sunday emails we send out for the Modern Mrs Darcy Book Club each week called the Sunday Dispatch.
Thanks for this roundup of reads, Anne. I hope your weekend is just what you need. You’ve been on my heart.
Also, very excited to see Sara Bareilles writing the score to The Interestings!
I love Rifle Paper and had no idea they were doing a collaboration with Target—so thank you for the heads up! And Anne, it was heartening to see your name in the byline of this post. Hoping you have a weekend of grace, peace, rest, and whatever else you need, too.
Omigosh, the Trader Joe’s article made me laugh out loud!
Me too – Anne was right that the review was a bit cranky, but it’s good to get another point of view. Lots of cool stuff at Trader Joe’s but not every item is a hit.
Alex Beggs is my go-to for all things TJ and not just because she’s hilarious.
