What’s in store for your weekend? We’re enjoying Thanksgiving break at my house, starting the day with a late breakfast of coffee and leftover pie. Today we’re lighting the tree (since my son already put it up, BLESS HIM) and we’re baking holiday cookies (more on that soon).
Whatever you’re up to, I hope your weekend is filled with grace, peace, rest, and good books.
My favorite finds from around the web:
- My reading journals are HALF OFF at Harvest House! This is an unprecedented deal: stock up for your own use or for your future gifting needs.
- Ebooks Made Me Fall Back in Love With Reading. (WIRED) “Ebooks offer a way to read without fear of judgment. I think it’s better to have read a gazillion mystery novels than to have never read at all.”
- This adorable Target sweater we’ve shared before is just $12 today (mine is red), and this sparkly sweater from Ann Taylor Loft is less than $30! (If they no longer have your size at Loft, rest assured they have LOTS of great sweaters at great prices right now. Don’t ask me how I know.)
- Native American Heritage Month Recommendations for Kids from the Teen Reading Ambassadors. (New York Public Library)
- Carrot Top Paper Shop is one of my very favorite Etsy shops, and Jenny has a fantastic deal going right now: everything in the shop is 30% off with your purchase of $10 or more. Take a look around, but I suggest you scoop up the adorable Great Books stickers, She is too fond of books mug, Every Occasion postcard set, and literary bookmarks. And a “Call me Cordelia” sticker, just for you, just because.
- For those shopping today: stellar sales are happening today and all weekend for many items from our gift guides:
- A grandmother accidentally texted a stranger to make Thanksgiving plans. 7 years on, they’re still celebrating together. (NBC News) It makes me happy they’ve kept this tradition going!
- Black Culture as Design and Lifestyle: At Home with Jason Reynolds. (Literary Hub) His home is filled with so many bright and beautiful pops of color.
- Hulu has a great deal going right now: lock in the rate of $1.99/month for a year.
- Reading My Own Rip-Offs. (The Atlantic) A wild story about the scammers ripping off A.J. Jacobs’s latest book.
- Our multigenerational crew had a ball playing this game after Thanksgiving dinner. I mean, mini white boards! What’s not to love?
- 15 Whimsical Fairytale Houses Around the World. (Architectural Digest) Creative and darling!
- Firstleaf has an unbeatable Black Friday promo going: get 6 bottles of wine for $29.95 + Free Shipping for 1 year! Will and I like how it’s easy (and inexpensive, especially with this deal) to try new wines with this award-winning subscription.
- Passion Doesn’t Pay the Bills. (Vulture) I hope HarperCollins will do right by their employees.
- Trader Joe’s Holiday Products Worth Adding To Your Cart. (Restaurant Clicks) I’m making a list and checking it twice.
Don’t miss these posts:

Favorite comments of the month:

- “It makes me sad that they won’t see this but I got the BEST recommendations on books from the post you did on travel books (or books that transport us—something like that) recently. Absolutely loved The Midnight Ladies Swimming Club and enjoyed Soy Sauce for Beginners—thank you all for sharing your wonderful recommendations!” — Aimie on What I’ve been reading lately: the new and the notable. I love how Aimie highlights how much the comments section means to readers!

- “We love Joy’s Apple Cranberry Crumble Pie, but I make it as a crisp.” —Rita on Links I Love, in response to my please for cranberry recipes. Thank you, Rita (and others who heartily seconded her recommendation in comments) for providing us with our Thanksgiving dessert. It was a hit!

Happy Thanksgiving, Anne and MMD Team! I am so grateful for your site and this community. I am an audiobook convert thanks to you all, and love getting ideas for books and life on the regular here. My TBR grows each week and I look forward to digging into it deeply this winter. Cheers!
Thank you for sharing the Jason Reynolds article.
I looked at that Target sweater online but when I read the comments was hesitant to order one because many people said it was short. However I am a short person so I thought it might not be too short but I didn’t want to just buy it online with the mixed reviews. I hadn’t planned on going in to my local Target but ended up doing so and they had one red sweater left in my usual size and it fits! Thanks for the heads up!
Thank you for all the links especially the book guides
Good morning! I love your blog and share things I find here with my friends!
I have a 13 year old granddaughter and an 8 year old granddaughter – please recommend some NEW books for each – I need to find new ones to ensure that they don’t already have them… They are both great readers. Don’t want anything too old (!) for the 13 year old. And they both like graphic novels!
Thank you in advance –
Connie Salter
Jason Reynolds is my imaginary literary boyfriend and I WILL fight you for him! I mean, it probably won’t be much of a fight, but still…
My favorite Trader Joe’s holiday treat used to be Brandy Beans, but they haven’t been able to get those since the pandemic. 🙁 My daughter gets a tin (or two) of the Peppermint Bark for Christmas. The Enrobed Joe-Joe’s cookies are so festively packaged (and delicious) that they make great hostess gifts. The cinnamon-dusted Toscano cheese is delicious, but you gotta get it as soon as it appears in early fall. Long gone by now.
