a lifestyle blog for book lovers

Live from New Orleans, my favorite finds from around the web:

The Man Booker Prize 2017 Shortlist. File under: nerdy like that.

• “There’s something magical about the combination of movement, fresh air, and a useful task.” Thrilled to be featured on Gretchen Rubin’s site as part of her Happiness Interview series.

The classes 25 famous writers teach. This makes me want to go back to school. I had no idea some of these authors were active professors!

• I’ve adopted a ‘2-hour rule’ based on the habit that led Einstein, Darwin, and Nietzsche to brilliance — and it’s had the highest ROI of anything I’ve done. Two hours to think, every week. This article makes me want to calendar it in right now.

Book news:

This is the last weekend to preorder Reading People and get the preorder bonuses. Take your receipt to annebogel.com/reading-people and complete the short form to get instant access to my What’s Your Reading Personality? class, and a code to download a FREE version of the audiobook when the book releases on September 19.

Order your copy wherever books are sold: your local indie, Barnes and Noble, Amazon, wherever.

And don’t miss me reading Chapter 1 of Reading People in yesterday’s special episode of What Should I Read Next!

Favorite instagram:

This week, my friend Leigh and I culled my bookshelves when she was in town, and then dropped 35-40 books (I wish we’d counted first!) off at four local-to-me Little Free Libraries. The rainy day light isn’t so good, but whatever. (Follow me on instagram @annebogel.)

On the blog:

How to listen to a podcast.

One year ago: 20 books everyone will be talking about this fall. These will be significantly easier to get at the library this year.

Two years ago: Mr. Darcy vs. Gilbert Blythe.

Three years ago: Fiction recommendations for the Anglophile.

Have a great weekend!

I love that you were able to share the first chapter of your book. I had been meaning to click the “add to cart” button for awhile now, but after listening to the first chapter, I went ahead and pre-ordered. Can’t wait to read the whole book!

To my surprise and delight my preordered copy of “Reading People” arrived on the 14th!! Cannot imagine the thrill and satisfaction you must have seeing the finished product–your book! Congratulations!!

  3. I’ve just discovered author Amy Harmon this year and have been binge reading her titles as quickly as I can. She has been my favorite discovery this year as she writes well in every genre she has tried -fantasy, contemporary and historical.

Ally Carter’s Embassy Row (international mysteries) novels are awesome! I can’t wait to read these, and that has never been normal for me. I hated reading growing up and only learned to like reading when I was born again and started reading the Bible. Since then, and since starting to work in a high school library, I’ve been finding books that I can’t put down. This series has been the best. Ally Carter knows how to write cliff hangers like nobody else! I’m on the last book in the series and mourning the loss already. Will move on to her Gallagher Girls (about female spies) series next. I love international mysteries (because of the settings), and I also adore anything about spies.
