The 2021 Summer Reading Guide is here!

Today we’re welcoming summer in style, along with a bright and beautiful new reading season: the TENTH annual Summer Reading Guide is here!

Our 2021 edition is really something special, and I’m so excited to put it in your hands!

If you subscribe to our emails, it should hit your inbox at 9:00am Eastern time this morning.

We always say that summer’s too short to read books you don’t enjoy. We’ve created our best summer reading guide yet to help you discover the books that are perfect for you—whether you love getting lost in historical fiction, need a thrilling page-turner to keep your attention, or crave a frothy read for complete escape.

Once again, I’ve read literally hundreds of new releases to prepare this year’s guide, and compiled my 31 (or 46, more in a sec) favorite summer titles in one compact, user-friendly guide. In every description, I give you the information you need to help you decide if that book sounds like a good fit for you.

The Summer Reading Guide is a gift to our subscribers—but if you’re not already a subscriber, it’s not too late to get the guide.

Visit the Summer Reading Guide HQ page to sign up and get the 2021 guide delivered to your inbox, along with ongoing bookish updates.

We once again released an expanded guide for Modern Mrs. Darcy Book Club members and What Should I Read Next Patreon supporters! This year’s expanded edition is our way of saying a big THANK YOU to our community members—with 15 extra summer reading titles, bonus book lists and features, and more. To get the expanded edition of the Summer Reading Guide—and we really think you will—sign up for the MMD Book Club or WSIRN Patreon to get immediate access to that edition.

If you find something great in the Summer Reading Guide, would you spread the book love? Visit the Summer Reading Guide HQ page to get eye-catching SRG images to download and share on your favorite social media platform on the Summer Reading Guide HQ page. Our hashtags are #modernmrsdarcy and #mmdsummerreading. Happy summer, and happy reading!

  1. This is a day I look forward to all year, as I know it’s going to explode my TBR! I’ve been making my own “summer reading list” for the last few years on my blog, which is basically all the books I PLAN to read in the summer. Inevitably, some of the titles from your guide end up on my list! Thanks for the hundreds of hours you put into this each year <3

This is such a big deal for me, and I feel so rich when I look at all the books on the SRG. You have done it again, Anne, and my TBR is so much longer. This year’s Guide is maybe the best ever, and I love the little extra “For fans of…” since those references give me even more books to consider, if I haven’t already read them. Thank you.

Fantastic summer reading guide, once again! Thank you so much, Anne and team. Loads to look at, and I anticipate many enjoyable hours of reading, based on your recommendations.

Serendipitously, I was already reading one of the books mentioned in the guide. So I am off to a good start 🙂 But what I like about your book lists, and your summer reading guides, is the discovery of great books that I wouldn’t have otherwise picked up. Your recommendations are so helpful in encouraging me to expand my reading outside my usual mysteries, thrillers and occasional sci fi novels.

  4. Katie says:

I can’t wait to really dig into this list and get my library holds going! I pre-ordered People We Meet on Vacation after reading Beach Read in March. Beach Read was a fantastic 5 stars (probably on my list of all time favorites) and People We Meet was 5 stars as well! I think Emily Henry might be an auto-buy for me now 🙂
