a lifestyle blog for book lovers

What’s happening this weekend? We’re doing college visits with my high school junior, catching up on a favorite show, tidying up my office (as the books are once again out of control), and getting together with friends. I hope you have something to look forward to this weekend!

(Almost) every Friday, we share interesting links and a few favorite things to help ease us all into that weekend frame of mind. I hope you enjoy this week’s edition.

My favorite finds from around the web:

Upcoming Events:

  • March 9: Let’s Talk About Funny Books: A Conversation with Amy Poeppel: What books make us laugh? In this deep dive into the funny books genre, we’ll talk about what makes a book funny, how a story balances drama and humor, and how a writer injects serious moments of catastrophe and tragedy with humor. We’ll also be joined by Amy Poeppel, author of Musical Chairs. (This is a Modern Mrs Darcy Book Club event.)

You can find more upcoming events here.

Have a great weekend!

Loved the baking article- baking using weights/a scale is so much more accurate than using measuring cups- and way less cleanup!

I love the LeVar Burton video! I’ve watched it several times this week.

Also, thanks for the gifted baking article link… I’m an enthusiastic baker– but a novice to be sure so I need the advice.

The new Maggie O’Farrell looks amazing. Something to add to my long-term TBR!

The new book by Maggie O’Farrell sounds great, but such a long wait🙁
I don’t like this new world of publishing where preorder became the new marketing tool, especially not this far in advance. You can’t stay excited waiting for a book for seven months.

I always love this link roundup, thanks Anne! I read the baking article and the only thing I will say is that I have to make my own buttermilk when I bake because I’m lactose intolerant. If anyone knows of a better substitute, please tell me! I love to bake and so many recipes require this ingredient.
Also, I saw the daughter reading in the stands during the Superbowl and I chuckled knowingly to myself. I used to do the same thing when I had to be somewhere I did not want to be. 🙂

The player, Andrew Whitworth, said she was reading the game program, so she didn’t take a book along to read, it just looked that way.

Thanks for putting the new Maggie O’Farrell on my radar. I checked and my library does not have a wait list up for it yet, but I will be on the lookout!

I absolutely loved the movie Crossing Delancy & was so glad to see it made the list of best romantic comedies. Such a darling movie. Great soundtrack too. Great supporting actors as well as Amy Irving (the first Mrs. Spielberg).

One that did not make the list was The Love Letter. That starred the current Mrs. Spielberg, Kate Capshaw. Cute movie!

And did I miss Sleepless In Seattle, You’ve Got Mail & While You Were Sleeping??

  6. Of those Anthropologie mugs, my mom bought me the book one, and I bought her the flower/butterfly one for Mother’s Day last year! Be sure not to microwave them because the foil on the rim will get messed up haha!

What funny timing of this list! As I was reading through the titles, I laughed when I read the one about hot water bottles, as I literally have one on my lap as I read. 🙂
