What’s in store for your weekend? I hope you have something on the near horizon to look forward to. The red leaves are peaking here right now, and I hope to get outside and go on at least one very long walk.
My favorite finds from around the web:
- Appreciation: The irreplaceable Alex Trebek made ‘Jeopardy!’ a sane place in a mad world. Such a loss.
- Stacey Abrams Has Written 8 Romance Novels Under the Name “Selena Montgomery.” I learned this while recording WSIRN episode 258 when guest Jenna Lowenstein filled me in. I don’t know how I missed it!
- When I checked out with Catan and Ticket to Ride at the store last week, the cashier told me board games are FLYING off the shelves right now. Looks like we’re not the only ones preparing for a snug winter at home.
- Ina Garten: ‘All My Books Really Are About Comfort Food’. And we are grateful for it.
- How Your Brain Tricks You Into Taking Risks During the Pandemic. The rising numbers are scary. Wear a mask and stay home as much as possible.
- Several readers raved about these happy sprout bookmarks in the comments section of our recent bookmarks post. I love them!
- 26 of the Best Book Podcasts to Listen to When You’re Not Reading. What Should I Read Next? is in seriously great company.
- This puzzle is VERY COOL. I’ve never done one like it!
- 36 Best Instant Pot Recipes for When You Want Slow-Cooked Flavor, Fast. I’m always looking for good instant pot recipes.
- The Bedtime Routine That Helps Me Shut My Brain Down Each Night. Good tips for anyone who’s had trouble sleeping lately.
- For people working on the Reading Challenge: 2021 Aspen Words Literary Prize Longlist.
We made it to the next round!
Incredibly honored my book Don’t Overthink It made it to the semifinal round of the Goodreads Choice Awards! Thank you, readers. Please go vote for your favorites!
Don’t miss these posts:
- 6 books I had to be talked into reading (that I’m so very glad I read). Sometimes we avoid books for stupid, shallow reasons but thankfully sometimes we give them a chance anyway and discover a great book.
- How to deal with your crazy family (from an accidental expert). A good post to revisit around the holidays, even if the holidays are going to look very different this year.
Have a great weekend!

I’ve been puzzling like crazy the past few weeks and I’ve never seen one like that either! I recently discovered there are monthly puzzle subscriptions!! So I might be asking for one of those for Christmas 🙂
Our family has been long time gamers-so if you enjoy Catan and Ticket to Ride might I suggest a few of my favorites: Azul, Unearth, King Domino, Clank!, Sushi Go Party, and Skull King
We’ve been playing lots of games lately because snowy weather has already begun for us 😊
I also recommend King Domino, which is a quick game that’s good for 2, 3, or 4 players. It’s easy to learn and addictive, so you’ll end up playing multiple games!
Catan and Ticket to Ride are our favorites and I already purchased Azul for a family Christmas gift this year! Thank you for this list of ones to check out next!!
I love Ticket to Ride. Our family has purchased a couple other editions at GenCon and Target- New York , London and the biggie Rails and Sails. The city ones are fast and easier with the younger kids:)
Boy would I be happy to be able to just jump into that picture at the top right now…
Omigosh! I probably saved half of the Instant Pot recipes on my Pinterest board! I can’t wait to try some of them! Thank you for your post w/ the recipes.
I needed these links this week. BTW, have you seen that Powell”s has a new perfume out? “How to Smell Like A Million Books”.

Codenames is a family favorite over here! Time and time again, this is our go-to game!
That Stacy Abrams has multitudes! I would have never guessed! I love it! 🙂
What a great collection of links! I look forward to this post all week long. Thanks for compiling and sharing.
Stacy Abrams is amazing and I’m psyched to find out she also has written novels. Of all the things! How cool is that? Thanks for sharing that link. I’m currently reading her latest book, Our Tine Is Now, and it’s very well written. No surprise now that I know she’s done so much writing as well as other incredible things.
Hey, Anne! 🖐🏾 I was sooo hurt about Alex Trebek’s passing 💔 He was the reason I loved learning. I had vowed to never watch Jeopardy again. However, I recently found out that fans of the show are pushing for LeVar Burton to host. He’d be perfect! He’s the reasI fell in love with reading when I was 4. I haven’t read your list of Book Podcasts yet, but I hope LeVar Burton Reads is on it. Do you think he’d make a good host? Im currently reading The Crimson Petal and the White by Michael Faber, Villete by Charlotte Bronte and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte. I like classics in the Fall. Happy reading!
LeVar????! I hadn’t heard that yet but OH MY GOODNESS YES.
Ahhh more Kate Claybourn to read!
The Writer’s Life sounds really good.
Here’s what my family has been reading – including a Hanukkah romance, backlist Crichton for my husband, starting to make my way through VE Schwab’s backlist, and some fun read alouds with my kids.
