a lifestyle blog for book lovers

Happy Friday, and happy should-have-been Oaks Day! Tomorrow is the first Saturday in May, which means today is a special day here in Louisville: Oaks Day, the day before the Derby. The big race may have been postponed till September, but around here we’re still baking (not) Derby pie and mixing up juleps to celebrate.

I hope you have a great weekend ahead of you. Enjoy these fun things and interesting reads to get you started.

My favorite finds from around the web:

  • Just in time for our Summer Reading Guide Unboxing on May 12: you’re looking for gift ideas for teachers or Mother’s Day, don’t forget to give (or request) a Modern Mrs Darcy Book Club membership!

Don’t miss these posts:

Have a great weekend!

I have been singing DO RE Mi for weeks now. I come into work and my building is practically deserted. I loved that parody. You always brighten my Friday!

Since you mention the Derby, on Sat at NBC at 3pm (ET) they are running a special about American Pharoah’s Run to the Crown, and then, even more interesting, they are running a VIRTUAL DERBY, competing all 13 Triple Crown winners against each other! Secretariat is the 7/2 odds favorite! Can’t wait to see how it shapes up!

Have you seen the other videos by the same person who did the Do Re Mi song? The latest one is Mary Poppins. She’s also done Favorite Things from Sound of Music and Somewhere over the Rainbow from Wizard of Oz.
