a lifestyle blog for book lovers

Happy Friday, readers! I’m rolling into the weekend with lots of sunshine (FINALLY) and 30 pages to go in a great book ….

My favorite finds from around the web:

• What makes you pick up a book? “The biggest reason someone might decide to spend time and money on a book is that he/she feels like a relationship exists with the author. The reader has read one of the author’s previous titles. The reader has met or heard the author and enjoyed the experience.”

• Biblioburro: The amazing donkey libraries of Colombia. “By adapting the packsaddles of his two donkeys, Alfa and Beto, from carrying water to carrying books, Luis created a makeshift mobile library and set off to take his books to children who otherwise wouldn’t have access to reading materials.”

• Clothes I wear all the time. “These jeans save the day every time.”

• 9 songs for the 9 types. Musician Sleeping At Last is writing a song for each Enneagram type. So far you can listen to 1–4 (which means I’ll be waiting a while for my Type 9 tune…)

• 2018 Pulitzer winners. If you’re doing the 2018 Reading Challenge, here are some considerations for titles that were nominated for an award this year.

Favorite Instagram:

We spent spring break in (a very chilly) Washington, D.C. this year, and this stop at the Library of Congress was near the top of my favorites list. Even the bathrooms in this place were incredible. (Follow me on instagram @annebogel.)

On the blog:

1 year ago: 6 mini-resolutions keeping me healthy and happy and sane this spring. “I’ve been taking stock lately, doing a sort of spring cleaning of my home and habits, in an attempt to emphasize the good and shed the bad.”

2 years ago: Chase the fun. “This isn’t your permission slip to spend the day googling news on the Gilmore Girls reunion. It IS an invitation to keep an eye on what fires you up as you move through the world.”

3 years ago: 7 things I’m choosing to splurge on right now. “I love reading about what people do and don’t splurge on, and why.”

4 years ago: The secret to faking a clean house. “I would care very much if a friend slipped on a Lego and broke her leg (which seems like a real possibility, some days). This little tip eliminates the risk.”

Have a great weekend!

  1. Just listened to Part I of the 4 panel Typology podcast last night and they closed with Sleeping at Last. (My husband is a 4, so I can use all the help I can get 🙂 ) I love Sleeping at Last! Our dance group is working on a project using the piece North. I think this Enneagram inspired project is fantastic.

Might be one of the first times that reading the blurb for Pulitzer prize book for fiction made me want to read it. Looks good!

Also YES to the Library of Congress. One of my rather unexpected favorites as well.

I love that you mentioned Sleeping at Last and his enneagram project! As a One, I was so moved when I heard the first song in the series on the Typology podcast with Ian Cron. My husband is a 9 as well so I’m eagerly waiting to see if his type’s song resonates with him as much as mine did.

Luis Soriano visited the school where I teach back in the fall. He was the inspiration for a summer reading program in my district.

The Library of Congress was at the top of our list, also. Loved it!
