a lifestyle blog for book lovers

I’d Rather Be Reading is here!

Readers, today’s the day: I’d Rather Be Reading is here—in your hands and in bookstores across the country.

I’m mildly terrified, but mostly overjoyed to share this book with you.

For so many of us, reading isn’t just a hobby or a way to pass the time—it’s a lifestyle. Our books shape us, define us, enchant us, and even sometimes infuriate us. Our books are a part of who we are as people, and we can’t imagine life without them. While you read this collection of charming and relatable reflections, I hope you’ll remember the book that first hooked you, the place where you first fell in love with reading, and all the books and moments afterward that helped make you the reader you are today.

I’d Rather Be Reading is the perfect gift for any bibliophile and will command an honored place on the (overstuffed) bookshelves of any book lover.

Treat your shelf—or the shelf of your friend, neighbor, sibling, partner, child, teacher, dog sitter, etc.—wherever you like to buy your books: Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Baker Book House, Indigo, Book Depository, ChristianBook.com, Books A Million, or visit your favorite independent bookstore.

(To answer an FAQ: I would be HONORED if you borrowed I’d Rather Be Reading from your library or suggested it for purchase. I love libraries and it fills my heart with joy to see my books there. It’s also one of my favorite free and easy way to support my favorite authors.)

To celebrate my book birthday, can you help spread the book love?

Once you’ve gotten your copy and read it, would you mind leaving a review? This is so important—and so much more important than I wish it was! File under “sad but true”: I can’t tell you how many readers have casually mentioned that they’ll never read a book with less than a hundred Amazon reviews, or less than a four-star rating.

And before, after, or during your reading of I’d Rather Be Reading, tell your friends about it! Word-of-mouth is my favorite way to share the book love, whether that’s over coffee or in a tweet. Your personal recommendations matter to the readers you know. Your photo, blurb, or tweet doesn’t have to be long or carefully crafted. Hey, look what I’m reading right now! or I can’t wait to start reading this next! are hugely effective. FEEL FREE to borrow my photos of I’d Rather Be Reading to share on YOUR accounts. You can find additional Instagram images here.

I’m so grateful for your support and hope to thank you and wish you Happy Reading! in person. This is the final event schedule, and if I’m not making it to your area this round, hopefully I can come see you soon. Check the events page or with your local bookstore for all the details.

Happy reading!

Anne

P.S. Tune in to today’s episode of What Should I Read Next? where I’m answering YOUR questions, like What did I do with my life before I became a blogger and podcaster? What movie is TOTALLY better than the book it’s based on? What are my literary pet peeves? Are audiobooks really considered “reading”? Listen on the blog or wherever you get your podcasts.

Congratulations, Anne! Just requested the book at my local library… where I was the 27th hold on 1 copy! I hope they buy more. 🙂

Just read I’D RATHER BE READING and loved it since I am a long-time reader. I have suggested the books to various friends and will take it to my book club in two weeks.
I am also a bookseller at a Barnes & Noble (loved chapter 15) and have written a staff recommendation for this book. Also, think it would make a great hand sell during the holidays as it would make a perfect gift. Wonderful cover!

I’m so excited that you are coming to California! But is the San Mateo B&N date real? It’s on some lists and not on others. B&N doesn’t have it listed either. Thanks!
