We’re still sweltering in the summer heat where I live, but fall reading is right around the corner and I want you to know what’s coming your way!
This year’s fall reading season is STUPENDOUS. I don’t say that lightly. I’ve been working in the world of books since 2011, and I can remember no reading season as jam-packed with Big Deal Releases as the one to come. As my book-loving friend said to me this morning, “ALL my favorite authors have books coming out this fall!” She’s not wrong.
This year I’m sharing my 8th annual Fall Book Preview. The idea was born when I attended a regional bookseller trade show back in September 2019 for my spring 2020 release Don’t Overthink It: I thought, wouldn’t it be fun to bring you back a dispatch from book world about what titles publishers are most excited about this season, and to share what titles I’m most excited about?
Our Fall Book Preview has evolved significantly since 2019, but the question at its heart is the same: in a world with limited reading time and lots of readerly options, what do readers need to know to make their precious reading time worthwhile? I’ve been reading publishing catalogs all year and have read dozens of fall releases since June (as of this moment, 37 titles and counting) to bring you an informed dispatch from where I sit.
It’s all happening on Thursday, September 17. We’ll send the Fall Book Preview digital PDF lookbook out by email at noon EDT, and our live Unboxing is at 8:00pm EDT that night.

Our original Fall Book Preview experience
This year’s original Fall Book Preview experience includes our digital PDF Fall Book Preview 12-page lookbook and an invite to our live Fall Book Preview Unboxing event (plus access to the replay video, to watch on your schedule).
Our 90-minute live Unboxing event will feel substantially similar to our past Unboxings: I’ll walk you through my chosen titles and share why I chose each, plus reasons to add it to your TBR (or not).
But our digital PDF lookbook looks different this year. The biggest difference is that, to a greater extent than in our previous spring and fall Previews, I wanted the lookbook to standalone. It’s 6×9″, 16 pages, and has an inky, hand-stamped, ‘zine-inspired, pleasantly-packed-with-readerly-goodness kind of feel.
It’s more than a list of titles: I clearly lay out the 4- and 5-star reads I’ve already enjoyed for the season to come (there are a lot of them, folks) plus dozens more of my most anticipated titles. My team chimes in with their most anticipated fall releases and backlist favorites that feel just right for fall.
Did I say it was pleasantly packed with good stuff? It’s worth repeating!
