I added Deanna Raybourn’s “A Curious Beginning” to my TBR list from your suggestion to Rose, and was encouraged that there were so many glowing reviews on Goodreads. And going by the plot synopsis, it’s right up my alley. However, I’m about a third of the way through it now and having a hard time *liking* the heroine. I do plan to keep going, and am hoping for some character development at some point!
Stick with it Liz! The development of the character is a bit odd, I’ll agree. But, I think by the end, you’ll be happy to read it. I don’t want to provide any spoilers, but she sets up very well for sequels and quite unexpected. The heroine is a bit sassy, but I suspect in the series to come, Deanna has already developed her beyond this first book.
Thanks, Rose – that is good to hear! Right now, I just really want to poke her for being such a know-it-all *all* the time, but hopefully she’ll start to grow on me as I get further into the story.
Liz, I think the surprises to come you’ll enjoy 🙂
Would The Children be a book flight with Commonwealth?
