What we’re up to in Book Club this spring

Readers, I’m not ready to trade my favorite sweaters for short sleeves just yet, but I am ready for all things spring: fresh flowers on the table, evening walks while it’s still light out, and changing over my seasonal reading tastes from deep and moody to fresh and fun. (In fact, I’ve been reading a bunch of buzzy books for the Summer Reading Guide for months now!)

If you’re buried under piles of snow, it might not feel like spring is on its way, but perhaps a dose of readerly delight will provide a little sunshine? Spring is a season of transition, and we have a bunch of bookish events to carry you into the next few months of your reading life.

Here at Modern Mrs. Darcy, we delight in every season of reading. If you’re in need of escape, community, or joy, the Modern Mrs. Darcy Book Club is the place for you.

Our one-of-a-kind community is more than a book club, and it’s filled with kindred spirits who love talking all things books and reading. We read and discuss a monthly selection together, but that’s just the beginning of what we do. We also provide special events and content and host regular classes that help us get more out of our reading lives.

When you join, you also get instant access to our full library of past classes and author chats, including Book Journaling for Fun and Focus, 1 Hour to a Better #Bookstagram, and delightful author chats with Louise Miller, Elizabeth Acevedo, Tayari Jones, and more.

We enjoy classes that enhance our reading experience with delightfully nerdy deep dives, as well as classes that support our reading lifestyle, like how to clear the clutter from our To Be Read lists and choose our next great read.

My team and I have been excitedly discussing our new spring season for ages and we can’t wait to get started. Our thoughtful and fun book selections and passionately planned classes are sure to freshen up your reading life—and provide plenty of bookish goodness to look forward to each month. Take a look at what we’re up to this season …

We’re learning to read better, together

Last season, we learned how to reflect on our reading lives, set reading intentions, and clear out the bookish clutter to remove overwhelm from our TBR lists and book piles. (Remember, those classes are always available for members to watch in our video library).

This spring, we’ll continue learning how to get the most out of our reading lives with brand new classes and events. We’ll learn great strategies for approaching classic literature (through the lens of Zora Neale Hurston and the Harlem Renaissance), what readers should know about publishing, and enjoy this year’s Summer Reading Guide unboxing (coming in May!).

Our Spring Book Club selections

We’re always excited to explore and discuss new aspects of our reading lives. This spring, we’re focusing on writers, the craft of writing, and writing as it appears in the novels we love.

Note: All these picks are available in a special book box from one of my favorite indies, The Novel Neighbor. Limited quantities available; click here for book box options.

Refresh your reading life this spring

Our spring season will help you get more out of your reading life as we learn to read better, together—and we’ll have so much fun in the process! Members keep telling us that right now Book Club is their island of delight in a difficult time. Click here to get started.

Do you (or a friend) have a spring birthday coming up? We’ve got gift memberships, too. A membership for yourself or a reading friend would make a wonderful birthday, graduation, or Mother’s Day gift, whether or not you combine it with our physical box of bookish goodness.

I can’t wait to read with you this season. Happy reading, friends!

Anne

Excited for the spring Book Club picks!! I received Bird by Bird for Christmas, but haven’t read it yet. Likewise, Their Eyes Were Watching God is on my Kobo, but I haven’t read it yet either! Writers and Lovers is on my TBR list! *goes online to order the remaining selections* 🤣

I can’t get excited for spring just yet – while it’s been spring-like the past few days, we’re expecting snow and cold this weekend – with a high of 23° on Sunday…I’ll stay inside with some hot tea and veggie soup and a few warming reads.
