This is a research-driven book, and while the writing isn't exactly riveting, I found the information absolutely fascinating. From Booklist: "A close-up, heartbreaking look at rising poverty and income inequality in the U.S."

Hamilton fans, you know what to do. From the publisher: "The audiobook does more than tell the surprising story of how a Broadway musical became a national phenomenon: It demonstrates that America has always been renewed by the brash upstarts and brilliant outsiders, the men and women who don't throw away their shots." I LOVED this on audio (and it would have been even better with photos, like you get in the kindle edition).

Picnic at Hanging Rock

In this short Australian classic, a group of girls from the Appleyard College for Young Ladies venture out for a picnic at Hanging Rock on a beautiful afternoon. Three of the girls set out for a hike, and are never seen again. As I was reading this short novel, it strongly reminded me of something I'd read before, but I couldn't figure out WHAT. I finally realized it wasn't a book at all—it was the TV show Lost! (If that's not a recommendation, I don't know what is.)

The Whole Town’s Talking

After a listener recommended Fannie Flagg on episode 62 of What Should I Read Next, I rushed out and got her latest. This was my first Fannie Flagg novel, and when I started talking about it, you all were quick to tell me that this one wasn't representative of her work and I should read something else! I currently have Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Café in progress and Can't Wait to Get to Heaven checked out from the library.

A Mother’s Reckoning: Living in the Aftermath of Tragedy

Entertainment Weekly says, "This book which can be tough to read in places is an important one. It helps us arrive at a new understanding of how Columbine happened and, in the process, may help avert other tragedies. Rated: A."
