Living More Simply, One Bite at a Time

Living More Simply, One Bite at a Time

This year I’m Bookin’ It with Jessica, because the books she’s chosen for 2012 are fantastic.

January’s pick is One Bite at a Time: 52 Projects for Making Life Simpler by Tsh Oxenreider of Simple Mom.  And I love it.

I’m familiar with many of the ideas in this book already–I know what I need to do to simplify.  But I have a hard time focusing on one thing at a time because all the possible things I could be doing to make my life run more smoothly overwhelm me.  And then I get scattered and don’t follow through (and make myself crazy in the process).

But in One Bite at a Time, Tsh has carefully curated 52 projects to live more simply.  Each project is utterly do-able, broken into steps, and is (for the most part) finite.  So when you complete the project (or implement the system), you can check it off the list because you are done!

I just bought my copy last week, and I’ve already crossed four projects off the list: I’ve planned my morning routine (Project #3) and evening routine (Project #4) and posted them neatly on my fridge and my nightstand.  I made my first menus (Project #5, and they’re biweekly, as suggested) in Google Calendar.  And I’m making the switch to gentle, eco-friendly skin care (Project #30)–something I’ve been meaning to do for ages, but I’ve never made it a priority–until now!

Since one of my goals for 2012 is to “be more on top of things,” I’ve decided to tackle every project in the “Organizing Your Mind” and “Organizing Your Space” categories in the first quarter.  (You can visit the book’s site to view a nifty chart of the 52 projects and download a sample)

You can download the book here for $5, or get the Kindle version here (also $5).

If you’re a Simple Mom fan, you’ll want to come back and visit tomorrow to check out the giveaway 🙂  (And if you haven’t entered Monday’s giveaway, there’s still time!)

I purchased One Bite at a Time with my own funds.  I am an affiliate for the book and this post contains my affiliate links.  Thanks for supporting my blog!

  1. I just purchased 52 Bites last night (through your Search Amazon box, by the way!), and am seriously excited about reading it! I dislike reading books on my computer (I don’t have a Kindle), but I have a feeling that this book is going to be interesting enough to hold my attention, even if I have to read it on a screen instead of on paper. 🙂

  2. I just received a Kindle Fire for Christmas and have “checked out” Tsh’s Organized Simplicity through Amazon’s “lending” feature . . . I had intended to do 52 Bites afterward, but after reading your post on the small scope and check-off-ability of the projects in 52 Bites, I’m reconsidering . . . Thanks so much for your review!

Thanks for the review. I held of on this month’s “required reading” from Jessica because I’m not a fan of e-books (and I don’t have a kindle). You may have changed my mind.

I love the books she picked this year too!

I haven’t had a chance to write my review yet, but I recently read this book, too, and it was wonderful. And thanks for posting the link to Bookin’ It. I was not familiar with that blog, but it sounds like a fun reading challenge.

  5. Thanks for the thoughts on the book…was considering it…I could REALLY use some help getting on top of things! I met Tsh at the Relevant blog conference several months ago…she’s such a great, down to earth gal!!!

Hi! I would love to download the e-book… is there a different link I can use? I tried the hyperlink in your article and it sent me to a warning page (that something might be compromised, etc.) so I didn’t know what to do. Thanks! (I don’t have a Kindle…)
