a lifestyle blog for book lovers

I hope you and yours had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Today we’re enjoying cranberry crumble for breakfast, dragging out our Christmas tree, and watching You’ve Got Mail. And I’ll be placing a few orders for Christmas and upcoming birthday gifts in between.

Should you need any ideas, here are our new holiday gift guides so far:

My favorite finds from around the web:

  • Great deal alert! Hulu has a killer Black Friday offer: Just 99¢/month for a year. That’s 85% off the Hulu (ad-supported) plan, regularly $6.99/month. Cancel anytime. We’re subscribing so we can watch The Only Murders in the Building—I’ve heard great things!
  • Craftsy’s killer Black Friday deal: Join today and get a whole year of access to over 1,500 Premium Classes for only 99¢ (normally $79.99). Crafts, gardening, baking, writing, and lots, lots more.
  • I’m pleased to report the first Christmas present we bought this year is for Daisy: she’s getting an adorable new collar. (Don’t tell!)
  • The Park Bench Is an Endangered Species. “Like a good book or piece of music, a park bench allows for a sense of solitude and community at the same time, a simultaneity that’s crucial to life in a great city.”

Don’t miss these posts:

Upcoming Events:

  • November 30: Live chat with author Amy Jo Burns: Time for our Modern Mrs Darcy Book Club discussion of Shiner with author Amy Jo Burns! (Events are available as replays for members who cannot attend live.)

You can find more upcoming events here.

Have a great weekend!

Can you do an updated version of “books for odd book tastes?” I loved it and would have liked to leave comments but its too late now!

Thanks for the link on fighting against School and literary censorship..Very concerning what is happening. Our teachers need support in this, to have to deal with this in addition to all the trauma of the last couple of years.

Haha I’m still chuckling over the Trader Joe’s parking lot . I have to steel myself for the battle every time I go and say prayers that I don’t get into a fender bender. Love Traders but is a nightmare to go and now the holidays are here which magnifies it

We appreciate a good conversation in the comments section. Whether we’re talking about books or life, differing opinions can enrich a discussion when they’re offered for the purpose of greater connection and deeper understanding, which we whole-heartedly support. However, my team and I will delete comments that are hurtful or intended to shame members of this community, particularly if they are left by first-time commenters. We have zero tolerance for hate speech or bigotry of any kind. Remember that there are real people on the other side of the screen. We’re grateful our community of readers is characterized by kindness, curiosity, and thoughtfulness. Thank you for helping us keep it that way.
