It’s time for sweater weather

Who's excited for sweater weather? These 25 great sweater styles will get you ready for the fall and winter season.

The “sweater weather” memes have been back for a few weeks now but it’s only just starting to feel like fall in Louisville. I’m more than ready to pull out my favorite sweaters this season. I’m also taking stock of what’s missing from my wardrobe and refreshing with a new sweater or three.

But oh the decisions! While I might not be able to buy every sweater on my fall wish list, it’s fun to peruse the latest offerings and consider whether I should give them a new home.

I hope you enjoy this roundup of fall sweaters as much as I enjoyed putting it together!

All sweaters featured here were chosen because we love them. If you buy something through our retail links, we may earn an affiliate commission. More info here.

Universal Thread has not one but TWO great crewneck options. Will impulse bought me the cotton pullover on his last Target run and I LOVE it. I got a size large—one up from my “true” size—for that relaxed weekend vibe. I also love the look and feel of this cashmere-like version.

I’m of the mind that you can never have too many cardigans. This Madewell V-Neck Relaxed Cardigan is just the ticket! An easy fall go-to outfit is going to be jeans, a white tee, and this beauty. (I’m wearing this exact outfit with the navy cardigan right this minute.)

Colorblocking is a fun choice, like this Pink Lily Brown Colorblock Turtleneck Sweater. I sure do love that orange for fall!

How comfortable does this look? Madewell’s (Re)sponsible Cashmere Oversized Crewneck Sweater is responsibly sourced and available in great colors for fall.

The J.Crew New Heritage Rollneck sweater takes me right back to high school! Mine was green and I wore the heck out of it. It makes me happy to see these great 90s pieces on today’s shelves—and in today’s closets. (Psst—J.Crew is having an amazing sale right now, with almost 50% off almost everything.)

I’m dreaming of all the ways I could wear this terrific and versatile cardigan from Old Navy. Equally perfect with jeans or layered over a dress.

I want to cozy up in this Aerie Unreal Sweater, and not just because stripes are my love language.

Cats | Apples | Fair Isle | Flowers

If prints are your thing the ones from Boden are the CUTEST. Beautiful, versatile, cozy, and so blissfully cheerful. (Okay, the flowers are embroidered in that last one but I still had to include it.)

J. Crew’s cotton-blend short-sleeve turtleneck sweater is a great transitional piece. It’s available in soft gorgeous pastel shades or basic black and ivory.

There are so many ways you could layer this Loft Mock Neck Poncho Sweater.

Jenni Kayne | Banana Republic

The Jenni Kayne Cashmere Fisherman Sweater is a luxe pick, for sure. It’s a great sweater—and I adore mine—but there’s no denying it’s seriously spendy. Banana Republic has a great dupe for a much better price if you wait for a sale. (I have the BR one in three colors and wore them in heavy rotation all last winter.)

A reader recommended the Quince Mongolian Cashmere Crewneck Sweater. I haven’t tried this piece yet but am very happy with the blouses and dresses I’ve tried from the brand—great quality at a great price. This beautiful sweater comes in a ton of gorgeous colors; raspberry is pictured here.

Looking for a great basic? The T Tahari V-Neck Knit Sweater from Nordstrom Rack is a great price from a reliable brand and available in a wide variety of colors.

Everlane has been a sweater staple for a while; I have several go-to styles in my sweater drawer. I probably need to add this Organic Cotton Crew Sweater to my collection. The color options feel perfect for this coming fall and winter.

A black turtleneck sweater is a wonderful basic: Banana Republic’s Nezha Merino Turtleneck Sweater looks so chic!

This J.Crew Cashmere shrunken crewneck sweater in rugby stripe is adorable, and so easy to dress up or dress down. It’s available in solid colors, if you’d prefer a stripe-free version. (We can still be friends, I promise.)

Long cardigans can double as a coat if you’re not ready to concede defeat to the increasingly chilly weather. H&M offers this long cardigan in beige, gray, and black.

How many ribbed crewneck sweaters can one person own? Asking for a friend. But seriously, this Madewell version is a great, well-made casual sweater that has been in constant rotation in my early fall wardrobe. (I have the navy, pictured.)

Giselle V-neck sweater blazer | Schoolboy sweater blazer

J.Crew always has great sweater blazers; while the more relaxed look of the Giselle sweater blazer is my go-to, I love the look of their new Schoolboy sweater-blazer

One last lightweight option for those weeks when the temperature fluctuates all over the place: Pink Lily Kicking Back V-Neck Sweater. Looks like fall; feels like summer.

I love the beautiful sweaters featured! I’ve learned over the past few years why it is so hard to find sweaters that really last…..the yarn makers are skimping. during a tour of the Dale sweater factory in Norway, they told us that they can’t even get the quality of yarn that used to be available everywhere.

Pretty much the only place I buy sweaters is at LLBean. They are one of the few that offer WARM wool sweaters with lovely features and stand the test of time. Their classic Ragg Sweater is the best – lovely designs, no pilling, and so warm!

Is it wrong that I want them all🤣 I live in sweaters for as long as I can through out the year. I have couple of them hanging in my bathroom that serve as robes 🙂 they are the ones I still love but don’t want to be seen in public. Thank you for the preview.

Sweaters!! Bring them on! I love my sweaters and even though there’s no room left on my closet shelves, I just can’t help adding to my collection. Being of a certain age, I love my sweaters from J.Jill. They are soft and warm and the store is now bringing out all the great fall colors. (I just want to add that I’m waiting for Madewell to bring back those great flannel shirts with the side-seam pockets. I practically lived in mine last winter!)
