My new book I’d Rather Be Reading: The Delights and Dilemmas of the Reading Life comes out in less than a month. And much to my initial surprise, my book tour starts before launch date, on September 1. (Which means if you come to St Louis or Evanston you get your book early!)
I am so excited about this book, and especially about sharing it with you, my fellow readers. This book is dedicated to you, for first teaching me and then reaffirming over and over again through the years that it is so good to be among people who are reading.
I’ve been blogging for seven and a half years now, and after all these conversations online, it has brought me (and I hope, you) great joy to meet some of you and tell you happy reading! in person. Some of you have visited me right in the town where you live, some of you have hopped airplanes or road tripped hundreds of miles to attend one of my special events. These gatherings of readers abound in bookish enthusiasm and have been SO MUCH FUN. Book people really are the best people, and I’ve loved getting to meet you—in person.
at The Bookshelf in Thomasville, GA
As of right now, I’m tentatively set to visit nearly twenty different places this fall to do just that.
I’ve included a list of the cities I’ll be visiting below. We’re still finalizing a few—especially on the West Coast—and will add additional events to the lineup as we confirm those dates and places. Please check back for additional details.
I am so excited to share this book with you. I will be traveling all over but, of course, not to nearly as many places as I’d like to (which is everywhere). I hope you can come see me at one of the events listed below. Please note that some events are ticketed for space reasons, and I hear those are going fast. We’ve included links where possible so you can get all the information you need on the events near you—or not near you, but look like fabulous destinations for a getaway or road trip.
Below is a list of the cities I’ll be visiting. Please visit the events page for specific dates, additional information, and subsequent additions.

Oh, please come to Phoenix!
Yes!!! Please do! 🙂
I’ve heard such good things about your indies—would love to visit in person.
Seriously! You should totally come to Phoenix. Changing Hands Used Bookstore does stuff like that all the time. Would love to see you!
Please, please come to San Diego!!!
I would love that! Can you believe I’ve never been?
What are the best book stores in San Diego? I’ll be there next March for work and I’ve never been as an adult.
Congratulations Anne! So excited for you and to hear more about your book!

Might I suggest stopping by sunny Southern California? My favorite spot for hearing authors is Skylight Books in Los Feliz. Vromans in Pasadena is also a great independent bookseller.
I would absolutely love to. We’re working on West Coast stops now.
would love for you to come to Parnassus in Nashville!
I would, too!
Since you’ll already be in Texas, how about coming to Dallas?? Or maybe I can use this as an excuse to go back to Austin… 😉
How does Ft Worth sound? I can share details soon.
Hey Anne, Joseph Beth in Northern KY & Cincinnati is a great indie bookstore & so close to Louisville (;
I would love to visit!
We would love to have you visit Literati bookstore in Ann Arbor, Michigan! 🙂
I would love to visit!
I’m so glad you are going to Bookmarks! I lived in Winston for several years and left much of my heart there. You’ll likely get to meet my friends Ed Southern and his lovely wife Jamie, as well as my librarian pals Jessica, Candace, and Nanu. So Jealous. Unfortunately, I have to work and will miss you here in Louisville. Hopefully I will see you at another event in town…
Is SIBA open to the general public?
For the past three years it has been, but this year I don’t believe it is. (I would love to be wrong.)
BUMMER! I was SO excited to see Tampa on the list. This breaks my heart.
Got my ticket to Evanston! My husband was thrilled…I told him it was my birthday gift and now he doesn’t have to worry about what to buy/do. I’m set and very happy. I think you have a new fan! Can’t wait to meet you in person…
So fun! Can’t wait to meet you there.
We need you in Ithaca, New York!!! I would settle for Syracuse, New York!
I would love to visit!
Bookbar in Denver!!! YESSSSS!!!
My thoughts exactly!
Will you get to stay at Bookbed? Such a fun concept!
Yes!
Just got my ticket for the Davidson event!
Can’t wait to see you there!
So excited for you, Annie!!! Where’s Nashville?!!!
I would love to see you in Evanston but am really disappointed to see tickets at $75 per person (especially compared to prices at other stops). I will pre order the book anyway… I love the podcast!
Thanks for that!
I just got tickets for myself and my mom!! Can’t wait to see you in Davidson, NC! I’m so excited!
Looking forward to seeing you on September 10 in Asheville. I’ll be visiting there and your tour happily overlaps with my visit! I wanted to preorder but then thought it would be fun to buy the book in person at Malaprops. Will you have any of your swag on tour with you?
