The coziest item in my home

The quest for the perfect throw blanket

Sometimes you come across a simple everyday luxury item that truly is noteworthy. Something that makes your home feel like home. The Recyco chenille throw with fringe tassels is one of those special items. It’s my favorite throw blanket of all time.

I discovered this cozy treat in the most bookish of ways. In June 2023, I traveled to Thomasville, GA with a group of dear friends for a fantastic live event at The Bookshelf featuring authors R. Eric Thomas and Kerry Winfrey. We stayed at a gorgeous loft with a window seat straight out of my readerly daydreams. Early the next morning, I grabbed a soft throw blanket and a stack of books to enjoy, instantly feeling calm and relaxed. It was so comfy and tranquil; I remember thinking, “I wish I could recreate this special moment at home.”

Now let me tell you: I am no stranger to trying out a blanket and then buying the same one for myself. That is how I ended up with team member Donna’s favorite blanket as our wonderfully comfortable bed quilt. (Imagine Mike Myers in Wayne’s World saying, “It will be mine. Oh yes, it will be mine” and you’ll get the vibe.) So it may come as no surprise that I immediately ordered one of the Recyco chenille throws to be shipped to my house that very morning while sitting on the window bench.

Having owned a lot of throw blankets over the years that were good but not great, I was always on the hunt for the perfect one. My previous throws were either too small, too hot for our Florida weather, not durable enough to hold up to the numerous washings needed with our busy little household, or my most dreaded—full of fuzzy threads that shed everywhere.

When I tell you this blanket is my Goldilocks of throws, I am not exaggerating. At 60″ x 80″ it is the perfect size to share or to snuggle up with on your own. The extremely soft chenille is thin and cool but not at all flimsy, making it the perfect weight for coziness during any season and quintessential for fall reading time. I adore its luxurious “hotel” feel and how it helps me unwind at the end of a long day.

After a year of not-so-gentle use, I am also impressed by its durability. I’ve washed the throws plenty of times and they still look and feel great. The tassels have tangled some, most likely from being washed with additional blankets, but that does not bother me in the slightest. Plus, the throw has held up to the many elaborate pillow forts made by my family on rainy afternoons.

Just a month ago in a stroke of belated genius, I finally ordered a dark gray one for the foot of our bed to use when I read my Kindle past my bedtime. I have even started packing it on road trips to use when we arrive at our destination. Since it is perfect for gifting, I plan on buying more for Christmas; just don’t tell my mom, mother-in-law, or siblings.

If you can’t already tell, I LOVE (yes, all caps) this chenille throw for many reasons. The biggest is the sense of calm I feel when I reach for it. I am instantly transported back to that quiet morning spent reading on a window seat and my whole body relaxes. It is, to quote the exceptional Tina Turner, “simply the best.”

What a fun post! As far as cozy items in my house, there’s a few blankets that might be ranked the best. My girls have some really fluffy ones I bought off Amazon that are so soft and warm. *My* favorite is a snoopy blanket that is large and the perfect blend of not-too-heavy-but-still-warm and is so cute.
Admittedly the tangled tassles do drive me nuts because inevitably they cinch the edge of the blanket sometimes which I don’t like.

I totally understand this post! My “security blanket” is my Barefoot Dreams cable throw that I have had for several years. It is the softest and most comforting thing in my home. When I read or knit or just need a hug, I wrap up in it and feel calmed. Thank you for sharing your words.

Oh, “Security blanket” is the perfect name for it! I have heard those Barefoot Dreams ones are lovely. Thank you for reading!

Totally understand Brigid’s rave! The Barefoot Dreams throw is my favorite. (I also have cozy sweaters from this brand. I can’t get enough of their squishy fabric!)

    • Brigid says:

Nikki- I did not know that Barefoot Dreams made sweaters too! How cool (or warm I should say, haha.)

Will def. be ordering that chenille throw, now which color?? Coziest item in my home is the quilt my grandmother made for me. When I look at the squares I see fabric from her aprons, doll clothes she made for me…when I wrap up in it…I feel like she is hugging me. Growing up, she is the only person I believed who loved me and I loved her so much.

LL Bean’s Wearable blanket is wonderfully warm and snuggly! I bought one, gifted one, and then bought myself a second color! Love them.

Ruth, I immediately googled that LL Bean wearable blanket! I wish it got colder here in South Florida so I could order one.

I am so excited for this throw, I have been looking for the perfect blanket to pair with my brand new lazy-boy I purchased as a reading chair! Thank you for the recommendation!

This blanket immediately went on my Christmas wish list. We have many throw blankets, but only one “good” one…and to be honest, nine times out of ten, our senior beagle claims it before a human can get to it! 😁

    • Brigid says:

Oh, I hope you love it and totally understand having many throw blankets but only “one” good one. That was us before I discovered this one, haha! Plus, who can resist a snuggly beagle? Not me!

I LOVE throws, that’s the part of winter that I like! But both the throws at my house and at my mother’s get covered with cat fur. Do you have a cat or dog, and how does this throw do with that? I did immediately go to the Recyco item online and drooled over them….I want red, but they only have that in the smaller size, and I don’t like them to be too small and have my toes stick out!

    • Brigid says:

Hi Suzy! We do not currently have any pets in our home so I can’t speak to its ability to repel fur and I sure hope they get red back in stock in the larger size. the 60″ X 80″ is quite large so maybe the smaller one would be ok!

The most comfortable things in my home:
    The air conditioner, (in Texas)
My so comfy bed & pillows, a wonderful place to read
My cat’s soft, furry little head bumps
