I wanted to fill you in on what I’ve been reading recently, especially because I’ve just finished two new releases from the Summer Reading Guide! I’m pleased to say they both passed the test.

A Homemade Life by Molly Wizenberg
Molly Wizenburg is so stinking charming. This memoir made me laugh, cry, check airfare to Paris, and curse my gluten-free diet.
Rules of Civility by Amor Towles.
Gorgeous, glamorous depiction of New York c 1938 and characters whose lives turn on 1 impulsive decision. I didn’t see that ending coming.
Dare, Dream, Do by Whitney Johnson:
Slow to start, but good stuff once it gets rolling. Loved sections on perfectionism, Shabby Apple, and dating your dreams. Utterly relatable.
Calico Joe by John Grisham:
A little simplistic, but when rookie and hometown hero Joe Castle storms the Big Leagues, it gave me goosebumps. Poignant redemption story.
Platform by Michael Hyatt
Get your highlighter ready. This book is jam-packed with practical, actionable tips for anyone who has (or wants) an online presence.
The 500 by Matthew Quirk.
The Firm Meets The Pelican Brief. Not as gripping as either, but still a page-turner. Stay tuned for 2nd novel from rookie writer @mquirk.
The $100 Startup by Chris Guillebeau:
Traditional work is so last century. Here’s how to ditch the corporate job and join the micro business revolution. Practical and inspiring.
The Likeness by Tana French:
This mystery had me glued to the couch for 2 days. Classic psychological thriller. Well-drawn characters. F-bombs galore.

Just finished The Happiness Project and getting ready to begin Crime and Punishment.
I loooooved The Likeness too! But I keep warning people about the F-bombs when I recommend it. 🙂

I’m so glad you liked The Likeness!!!!! We need to discuss it. And you need to read In the Woods next and then we can talk about that.
Rules of Civility was so intriguing to me. Some lines were so well written, I’d read them twice. The ending was unexpected but it also seemed a letdown in some ways.
Right now I’m reading An Everlasting Meal (you would love it!) and The Last Best League.
How do you have time to read so much?! I am dying to read A Homemade Life. Need to get my hands on a copy. I’ve just started in on Plenty, and so far it is interesting by like you said, it’s no A,V,M. We’ll see how it goes!

I have enjoyed the authors’s blog, “The Modern Mrs. Darcy,” and podcast, “What Should I Read Next?” for a couple of years now. By doing so, I’ve found books to read i wouldn’t have known about otherwise. This book is a series of essays and thoughts about reading and books. I relate to almost all of them.
If you love reading and all the joys and frustrations (like not being able to read all the books you want in your lifetime) that go with it, you will enjoy this little book. I didn’t read straight through the book. I read it more like a devotional and savored it. Loved it!
