In case you hadn’t already thought it through: this site takes its name from a Jane Austen novel. While the Pride and Prejudice connection doesn’t impact day-to-day editorial decisions, it does provide a ready excuse to indulge in my love of All Things Jane whenever the occasion demands. (Or allows?) And gift giving season is most definitely such a time!
We’ve included lots of independent shops and creators on this list, so watch those shipping deadlines and do them a favor by getting your orders in early! Ordering early is your best bet to get the items you want on time. Shopping early also goes a long way towards easing the pressure on small businesses later, during the traditionally brisk period between Thanksgiving and Christmas, and saves you from any potential shipping delays. Bonus: it will lessen your stress in the process.
I hope you find something here to delight the Austenite in your life—and if that Austen fan is you, then lucky you!

I have never read Jane Austen. What order should they be read?
Hi Mary, I’m sure there are hardcore Austenites who will have strong opinions, but since each novel is a stand-alone story, the order is not important. Try one, you will probably like it!
There are only 6 novels and many readers start with the most popular which tends to be Pride and Prejudice. (Although Persuasion is the favorite of many Janette’s) There is no reason to read them in order of their publication as Jane wrote and revised them over time and they are not related novels. It would probably be a good idea to read a bit about each and pick what might catch your interest. Emma is also a great book and don’t forget Jane was quite humorous!
All of her novels are stand alone so you can read them in any order you choose. However, having said this, my suggestion would be to read Pride and Prejudice first, it’s her most famous and (probably) most loved. If you enjoy that (and I’ve rarely met anyone who doesn’t) then move onto Sense and Sensibility, probably her second most loved novel. Once you’ve read those, I would suggest Emma followed by her remaining (Northhanger Abbey, Persuasion, and Mansfield Park) in any order. And if you need a final Jane Austen fix after all of those, there remains her novella, Lady Susan. I hope you love her books as much as I do!
Hi Mary,
I stumbled upon this blog post that suggests a reading calendar for what months to read each novel in, I’m using it in 2025. I have already read P&P and Emma, so using this for the ones I have left.
Happy Reading which ever way you decide!

If you have a Janeite in your life you could gift them a membership to Jane Austen Society of North America JASNA.org. Currently to celebrate the 250th Anniversary of her birth, students both high school and college, can join for free.
Katch Skinner makes adorable literary (and other!) egg cups – the Jane Austen and Brontë ones are perfect for this crowd, and I love the Mary Queen of Scots and Elizabeth I ones, too! https://www.katchskinnerceramics.com/shop/austen
Some of these are very appealing! I rolled my eyes at the bookends, though. Every time I see a piece of Austen merch featuring the “after all there is no enjoyment like reading” quote, I feel convinced the designer did not actually read the book. Austen puts the quote in the mouth of a person who obviously is not a reader and is only trying to impress. I think her point is that no one whose mind had actually been improved by reading good books would say something so pretentious.
I hear this on the enjoyment quote! Ten-years-ago Anne never would have shared such a thing, but I’ve come around: Miss Bingley may not have meant a word of what she said, but I like the idea of book lovers reclaiming and giving true meaning to what were for her empty words.
I have the World of Jane Austen puzzle and have been working on it. It’s been ages since I worked a jigsaw puzzle and I forgot how small the pieces are in a 1000 piece puzzle! It doesn’t fit well on the puzzle keeper I bought so that I don’t have to leave it out, so it’s an obstacle to getting to it more regularly because I have to somewhat combine pieces to put it away and then re-sort them. It’s really fun when I’m working it though!
Wonderful list! I’m so sad that the spoon is sold out, but I picked up a few candles.
If you’re a game lover, there’s a fun board/card game called Marrying Mr. Darcy which my 16 year old daughter and I loved to play. I just checked and one can buy it on Amazon.
My sister recently got this beautiful Pride and Prejudice vase at Barnes & Noble, and I think it’s sold on Amazon as well.

My daughter gifted me the Paddywax candle and I loved it so much that once it had burned out, I’ve kept it as a unique vase for small floral arrangements. I purchased a tiny tome of Jane Austen’s prayers. There are only three but they are beautiful.
Now for me to convince my husband that the perfect Christmas gift would be him surprising me after a quick swim in a damp white shirt! 😉
A few years ago, two friends Cec and Char decided to start a book club and read all of Jane Austen. I was delighted to be invited. Three or four others were also invited and we met monthly for potluck lunch and discussion. But when we had read all of Jane Austen, what to do? We decided to keep going with suggestions from each of us. It has been a rich and rewarding group of friends, good therapy sessions, great food–and book discussions. It is still the Jane Austen Book Group in my email group list.
