The days when it was just me and my laptop in the basement writing blog posts are long gone, and I couldn’t be happier about it. I’m delighted to introduce you to the delightful humans who keep all our plates spinning in the Modern Mrs Darcy and What Should I Read Next universe.
Ginger realized she was a Reader from an early age, and now can’t believe that her actual job involves talking books all day in her role as the MMD Book Club community manager. In her post, she plots, plans, and programs the classes conversations that take place in Book Club.
As a confirmed homebody and resident maximalist, Ginger divides her time between her overflowing book stacks upstairs, and overflowing bookshelves downstairs. Those shelves include lots of poetry, theology, and picture books, which she reads most every day, and multiple copies of Jane Eyre, The Secret History, and Till We Have Faces, which she reads most every year.
Brigid is a lifelong bookworm and lover of all things pop culture. A printmaker and former art teacher, she is thrilled to use her creativity, enthusiasm, and organizing skills as part of Team MMD. As the Book Club Community Administrator, Brigid happily assists readers with their support questions, works to get bookish emails in your inbox, and helps Anne keep tabs on all the great titles releasing any given Tuesday. A native South Floridian, she loves listening to audiobooks while walking along the beach. She lives in a tiny old home with her husband, two young kiddos, overflowing bookcases, and a million mosquitos in their backyard.
Brigid’s favorite genres are locked-room whodunits, romances with only one bed, sci-fi space operas, and quirky books that make her laugh. An avid audiobook listener, she will read just about anything narrated by Rebecca Lowman, Wil Wheaton, and Bahni Turpin. You can see pictures of her holding things on Instagram and follow her book reviews on Goodreads.
Leigh is a virtual assistant, sensitivity reader, and author. She worked as a medical social worker for several years before trading her social work career for the love of spreadsheets and organization. In another life she might have edited fiction for a Big Five publisher so she takes great joy in planning the editorial calendar for Modern Mrs Darcy, shaping blog posts, and providing feedback and support for contributing writers. After a number of years living in Nashville, San Francisco, and a few other places, Leigh returned to her roots in the Chicago suburbs. She is a voracious reader, Irish Breakfast tea devotee, and loyal White Sox fan.
Leigh is a proud romance enthusiast; her other go-to genre is fantasy. She started a book log in 2005 and the ensuing record is one of her prized possessions. You can find her book reviews on Goodreads.
Shannan is a writer and creative contributor in the literary landscape. She previously worked in executive administrative support and event planning. In her role at Modern Mrs. Darcy she gets to dive deep into what she loves: writing posts, recording podcast episodes, and co-hosting in the MMD space. She is a runner (“I’m slower than a herd of turtles stampeding through peanut butter, but I run”) and a foodie. She lives in Huntsville, Alabama with her hubby and the Buddy Man, prompting herself and others to enjoy life on her blog and on Instagram.
Shannan has been a bookman (anyone pick up that reference?) for as long as she can remember. Since life is short and her TBR is long, her tastes are broad and her go-to genre depends on her mood. Rereads include My Oxford Year, The Artist’s Way, Zorro, and A Psalm for the Wild-Built. Fav authors include R. F. Kuang, Charlie Lovett, Alix E. Harrow, and Brendan Slocumb.
Holly is a passionate traveler who is always keeping an eye out for the next adventure, both on the page and in real life. After working with a range of private, public, and governmental entities across a decade or so, Holly launched a new career as a digital consultant. As our What Should I Read Next Media Production Specialist, she helps bring new episodes to your favorite podcast player each week. When Holly’s not adding a new stamp to her passport, you’ll find her alongside her husband building their off-grid home in New Mexico. She writes about travel, sustainable living, and her recent reads at A Liminal Life.
Holly’s shelf is full of adventure narratives, fantasy and science fiction, and any story with a strong sense of place. Her auto-buy authors include V.E. Schwab, Rebecca Roanhorse, Kim Stanley Robinson, and Heather Hansman.
Donna loves looking at data and thinks a spreadsheet can be used for almost any topic. She helps pull together monthly metrics, survey results, and more as a volunteer for Team MMD. Donna has lived in California for most of her life and can’t resist a book set in Silicon Valley where she had a career in Corporate Finance. When she’s not reading, you’ll probably find Donna watching a movie or tv series or listening to music.
Donna’s favorite genres tend to lean toward more plot-driven and page-turning books including mysteries, thrillers, celebrity memoirs, and fantasy. But her statistics tell her that literary fiction often ends up being her favorite 5-star books of the year. Donna writes about a wide range of entertainment topics on her I Am Your Rabbit blog and occasionally she posts on Instagram.
Will has been around from the beginning and has handled all kinds of jobs both for Modern Mrs Darcy and What Should I Read Next.
He tries all kinds of books on Anne’s recommendation but his go-tos are mysteries and outdoorsy books.
