The longer days and bright sunshine have me itching to update my look for spring. It’s still too chilly to trade in my sweaters for pretty tees where I live, but it’s not too early to update my beauty basics. Here are 3 easy beauty updates to make for spring.
Lipstick
Lipstick can be a downright cheap way to change up your look, and this is the time to trade in those fall and winter tones for a fresh color. Go the drugstore route and spend less than $10–or maybe even a mere $3 if you get a deal or opt for Wet n Wild! Try the department store route if you prefer to try it on first.
Try on of these universally flattering shades of lipstick, regardless of whether you go drugstore or department store.
Drugstore
- Wet n Wild Lip Lacquer in Fling ($3)
- Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in Warm Me Up ($7)
- L’Oreal Colour Riche Lipcolour in True Red ($8) or Spice ($8)
Department Store
- Bobbi Brown Lip Color in Chocolate ($22)
- NARS Lipstick in Dolce Vita ($24)
- Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey ($14.50)
Clinique’s Black Honey is justifiably famous for looking good on everyone. But after reading the reviews on NARS’s Dolce Vita, I’m ready to go pick up a tube of that for myself as well.
Hair
A few strategically placed highlights (or lowlights) can freshen up your look and bring a fresh focus to your facial features. Consider adding a few highlights around your face to frame it and make your skin glow. Salon or in a box.
Bronzer
Apply a touch of bronzer to give your skin a healthy glow–even if you did spend the whole winter indoors. Use a light hand: spring is not the time to look like you’ve been at the beach all winter. And if you’d been at the beach, you wouldn’t be using bronzer anyway.
Foundation with an SPF Factor
Spring is coming, with it’s longer days, pleasant temperatures and brighter sunshine (with higher UV indices). I have sensitive skin and have a terrible time with sunscreen–my skin rebels against anything lotion-y. That is why I always choose a foundation or powder with an SPF factor. It’s a good idea for everyone, not just those of us with sensitive skin. There are so many options for SPF foundations–there’s no reason not to opt for one that protects your skin from the sun.
After a winter indoors, my spring foundation shade is lighter than my autumn foundation shade. This is a good time to make sure the shade you’re wearing is truly the most flattering to your skin tone.
Nail Polish
Spring nail polish is pure fun. Choose something fresh and new to you, something that’s sure to bring a smile to your face. I am ready to retire my steel grey and burnt sienna from the fall for happier pinks and oranges.
