What I’m into (February 2014 edition)

Linking up with the lovely Leigh Kramer to share what I’ve been into lately.

sledding

February felt long and full. We took advantage of the endless winter by going sledding for the first time in years (we couldn’t even find our sleds, as you can see). We got to hang out with out-of-town friends and spend cozy nights at home. We made heart-shaped pizzas and lots of cake. We enjoyed a few days of glorious 60 degree weather that made me hate the winter less, knowing it actually would end.

Here’s what I’ve been into this month.

What I’m reading

my current stack of library books

This is my current stack of library books. The ones I’m actually reading right now are Wildwood, Hatching Twitter, and Pastrix.

Also reading: The Smartest Kids in the World (on audiobook), The Middle PlaceThe Borrowers, and Found.

Worth watching

We’re halfway through season 3 of Veronica Mars, so we’ll be ready for the movie when it releases on March 14. (It streams free on Amazon Prime. Start a thirty day free trial if you’re not a member!

I loved this short film, THE GAP, from Ira Glass.

My kids and I have watched this one minute movie of the Ferrari crew doing a pit stop in two seconds dozens of times.

sick day drinking tea and watching Arrietty

Sarah and I took a sick day together Wednesday morning, drinking tea and watching The Secret World of Arrietty. We were both charmed by this take on The Borrowers.

In my kitchen

We’ve been baking cakes, tossing salads, soaking almonds, and baking frittatas. Recipe post on that last one coming soon.

For those who have asked for an update: Whole 30s are over and we’re back to paleo-ish.

I don’t read nearly as much as you but for once I have read a book that is on your night stand. The Red Tent. I enjoyed the read very much. To me it shows how much we need women(friends) relationships in our lives. I can’t imagine living though in that age. I hope you enjoy it.

YES! I forgot Veronica Mars comes out this month. Must get on the babysitter detail, stat.

We watched the show for the first time back when Netflix was only DVDs. Our first “binge watching” experience. Stayed up way way too late watching every show on each DVD and then we’d have to return it and wait DAYS for the next DVD. Ah, pre-streaming problems. We’ve actually re-watched the series several times in the years since. It still holds up. Excited for the movie but can’t help but wonder where the series could have gone if it hadn’t been cancelled.

  3. Thanks for linking up my TED talks, Anne! And I like your style of “what I’m into” posts. Fewer words (quick, witty descriptions) makes those links even more intriguing. And you can fit more in. Maybe I’ll try it next month… Anyway, have a fun weekend! Stay warm!

I’ve never seen Veronica Mars but all this chatter about it makes me curious 🙂 I just read The Middle Place and loved it. The ability to make me laugh and cry all at the same time is a winning combination in my book.

Anne, I just love your blog! Have so enjoyed reading all your posts, and love your book recommendations. Erica is right — your style makes those links so intriguing, I just can’t help but click away! Got to try that on my own blog!

Loved it, though it will definitely be all kinds of offensive to some, and I’m still trying to figure out WHY I loved it so much. It’s not a perfect book, but I thought it was a great read.

  6. Leigh Kramer says:

I’m so glad you had a few days of 60 degree weather. I want to hear your thoughts on The Middle Place! And then you need to read Glitter and Glue. Looking forward to your frittata recipe.

Oh my goodness, I loved Pastrix. I’m sure it will heartily offend a lot of people (so. many. f-bombs) but I loved it. Still processing the why, and it’s definitely a bit uneven, but I didn’t want to put it down.

  7. Leanne Penny says:

So much goodness here. We had great luck with your cake and can’t wait until OUR whole 30 is over so that we can do it again.

Just clicked on that post by the Nester, I need to read more of her… or something… I need to read more of everyone yet somehow I never do.
