a lifestyle blog for book lovers

Welcome to the Twitterature link-up! For the lowdown, head over here, or try this Cliff Notes version: this is the place to share short, casual reviews of books you’ve been reading.

Here’s what I’ve been reading

Someday, Someday, Maybe | Twitterature with Modern Mrs Darcy

Someday, Someday, Maybe, Lauren Graham

Finished Gilmore Girls, so I started Lorelai’s (I mean, Lauren Graham’s) book next. Fun and funny, and not bad at all for a debut novel. #beachreading

The Engagements | Twitterature with Modern Mrs Darcy

The Engagements: A Novel, J. Courtney Sullivan

The independent love stories of four couples are separated by generations, but share a surprising common bond. Woven throughout is the story of an iconic De Beer’s ad campaign. #ADiamondIsForever

Angle of Repose | Twitterature with Modern Mrs Darcy

Angle of Repose, Wallace Stegner

A sweeping novel, a commentary on marriage–why it works, why it fails. It’s a Pulitzer winner, but its dream sequence ending feels like a copout.

Attachments by Rainbow Rowell | Twitterature with Modern Mrs Darcy

Attachments, Rainbow Rowell

Sweet, light-hearted, fun. Not nearly as angsty as Eleanor & Park, but not as good, either. This modern love story unfolds over email. #chicklit

Life After Life by Jill McCorkle | Twitterature with Modern Mrs Darcy

Life After Life, Jill McCorkle

So beautiful–in parts–but some of the plot twists are just plain baffling. Not terrible, but not one I’d really recommend.

The next Twitterature link-up will be on Monday, September 16.

As I read it, I was wondering how much of it was autobiographical: it’s about a comedy actress struggling to break through in NYC in the 90s. 🙂

My favorite day of the month at Modern Mrs. Darcy! Can’t wait for my ‘to be read’ list to grow and grow! I didn’t realize that Rainbow Rowell had written another book. I read Eleanor and Park this month and loved it. Sounds like maybe I don’t need to rush to the next one…

I liked it. I thought the unusual structure really worked, though I can imagine it would drive some readers bonkers! It looks like Meg (the comment after yours) wasn’t sure she even wanted to finish it.

  2. Meg Evans says:

I am in the middle of reading Someday, Someday Maybe right now, and Eleanor & Park is in my stack of library books. I read The Engagements last week and am curious as to whether you liked it. My group that I read it with had mixed feelings about even finishing it.

  3. I keep hearing good things about Someday, Someday Maybe so I think it’s time to add it to my list. Although I’ve been saying that about the Gilmore Girls for years-I really need to start watching!! Maybe I’ll make those my “fun” goals for September 🙂

  4. Breanne says:

I have Someday, Someday, Maybe waiting for me at our library, I’m excited to read it more so now after reading your quick take on it. #gilmoregirlsfansunite

I always get so many great book recommendations here, love the link up!

Looks like some to add to my list. Maybe you’ve already done this already (I’m new to MMD) but I’d love to see a post on how and when you fit this amount of reading into your life. I’m a Mom of 2 littles right now (2 and 7 mos) and I’d love to be more intentional about reading more, a lot more! I’m sure I’d glean some ideas and inspiration from how you do it, without staying up all night (Which is what I tend to do and it does not work out well for any of us the next day.) Thanks for a great blog!
