Let’s read together this summer

online book club

Have you ever read a great book and desperately wanted to talk to someone, anyone about it, only to discover that none of your friends have read it and have no idea what you’re talking about?

Well, not anymore. At least not when you’re a member of the Modern Mrs Darcy Book Club.

This summer, join me and your fellow passionate readers in our one-of-a-kind online community as we read through my top 5 books for summer. We’ll have live video chats, forum discussions, and a private Facebook group (that’s already hopping with conversation!)

Since September, we’ve been reading one core selection together each month, plus one to four “flight books” that aren’t essential reading, but add depth and nuance to your reading experience. But this summer we’re cramming in five titles between Memorial Day and Labor Day, at no extra cost to you.

We read each book together over the course of the month, and then we gather in an online discussion to talk all about it. (Not able to make our video discussion for a title? No problem! All videos have a happy home on the MMD Book Club site, ready to watch and enjoy at any time.)

In our forums and Facebook group, you get to discuss each title as you read—you don’t have to wait till the next meeting (or leave your home, or even put on pants!) to dive in to the discussion. And you can do it from anywhere: access the whole site — groups, forums, videos, discussion questions — from any mobile device.

In the MMD Book Club, we’ve experienced amazing author chats firsthand—until we tried this, I had no idea what a magical experience a chat with the right author could be! I’m happy to say that we have three authors for our summer selections lined up already! Readers, you’re gonna love it.

Membership in the MMD Book Club costs $10 per month (yes, even for the summer season) and registration is quick, easy, and secure!

I hope to see you there this summer. Happy reading, everyone!

Facebook group….I had no idea that exsisted! I am a member of the MMD Book Club and would love to know where to find the Facebook Group and may I join please? 🙂

Also, completely out pure luck I did a search this morning on the blog… I don’t recall what it was for.. and I saw a very helpful post about how to find books on Modern Mrs. Darcy. One of the interesting things from this post is that I learned there is a MMD Card Catalog. This is amazing! Please, can you put a link to the Card Catalog in the “Books & Reading” Drop Down menu on the main MMD site? Also, is this being updated regularly?

Lisa, books I talk about here get automatically added to the card catalog, but I haven’t been featuring it because it has grown SO BIG—it’s gotten unwieldy! But I’m glad you enjoyed perusing. 🙂

How long does it usually take to be added to the Facebook group? I joined the book club last week – I think Friday? – and requested to join the Facebook group but I’m still pending.
I’m looking forward to reading with everyone this summer!

I keep thinking about joining and wanting to join, but I just can’t justify $120/year for the ability to discuss books. I’m sure it’s a lot of work so I can see why you want to charge something, but just can’t justify that much right now. I’ll be participating in The Morning News’ summer book club (related to their Tournament of Books) instead this summer, and recommend anyone else who likes literary fiction and wants book discussions but can’t justify paying now, to check it out.
