a lifestyle blog for book lovers

My favorite finds from around the web:

What a physicist sees when she looks at a fancy gown. “Baking is practical chemistry, knitting is manual programming, makeup is about crafting optical illusions, and adjusting pattern sizes relies on algebra.”

John Grisham’s do’s and don’t’s for writing popular fiction. DO: Write a page every day. DO: Use quotation marks for dialogue. DON’T: Keep a thesaurus within reaching distance.

The Oxford comma’s online dating profile.

Summer reading lists for kids, from The Art of Simple.

Favorite instagram:

Friday happenings. It’s been nearly four months since our move, and I’m working on getting a little more settled in before I host the Popcast Live VIP pre-party in two short weeks. Naturally the bookshelves are top priority.

The party and VIP show tickets are sold out, but Knox and Jamie opened up a new (cheaper!) category of general admission tickets for Saturday night’s event: get yours right here.

On the blog:

One year ago: 17 big, fat books for your summer reading.

Two years ago: You can tell a lot about a person by …

Three years ago: Slate, you are drunk. Adults should be reading YA.

Four years ago: Reading is better when it’s done wine-tasting style

Five years ago: What I learned by keeping a time diary

Have a great weekend!

I really loved the look back at “You can tell a lot about a person by…”
I had a friend whose baby daughter crawled over and got into my lap shortly after we met. She said that’s when she knew I was going to be a good friend. So, maybe you can tell a lot about a person by how tiny children react to her?
By the way, I would have freaked out with excitement when the fireflies came out!

You MUST share more pics of your bookshelves!!! Maybe even some rotated sideways to make it easier to read the titles 🙂
