a lifestyle blog for book lovers

My favorite finds from around the web:

I was pregnant, and then I wasn’t. “In the aftermath of a miscarriage, the loss of someone I never knew has been more devastating than I could have imagined.”

The Gone Girl with the Dragon Tattoo on the Train. “A number of patterns emerged in our analysis: The “girl” in the title is much more likely to be a woman than an actual girl, and the author of the book is more likely to be a woman. But if a book with “girl” in the title was written by a man, the girl is significantly more likely to end up dead.” By Emily St John Mandel.

The Halloween of my dreams. This is the best Halloween essay I’ve ever read, but it still makes me cry every time I read it. A lot. You’ve been warned.

How to read a book a week.

Favorite instagram:

What are you reading now?

Ask and you shall receive: I LOVED reading the (323 and counting) responses to this question. (From my podcast instagram account: Follow @whatshouldireadnext here.)

A new podcast:

If this election has you in desperate need of some bibliotherapy: I’m on one of my favorite podcasts Pantsuit Politics this week talking political books.  Whether you want to learn more or escape into a fictional political landscape, Sarah and I have some titles for you. Listen to the episode here.

On the blog:

One year ago: 8 favorite memoirs I keep coming back to.

Two years ago: 5 more of my favorite TED talks.

Four years ago: 3 time management rules I wish I’d learned 10 years ago.

Have a great weekend!

  1. What an interesting (and varied) selection of links. The one about miscarriage was heartbreaking. I am beyond grateful that I’ve never had to experience that, and my heart goes out to those who have. The one about ‘Girl’ titles was interesting because it’s something that I’d never noticed, but it was ridiculously obvious once I read the article. I wonder what the next title trend will be?

This weeks links were right on for me personally. I cried twice, was entertained and have already started a page in my bullet journal about building habits. Thanks!!
