a lifestyle blog for book lovers

Happy Saturday, friends! I’m headed to Franklin, Indiana today to meet some of you in person at Wild Geese Bookshop. (Hurray!) And I’m hoping to knock out a bit more Christmas shopping. (Need ideas: Lately we’ve talked about 4 easy gift ideas for men and 100 fun and practical stocking stuffer ideas here on the blog.)

My favorite finds from around the web:

• Google, shmoogle. Reference librarians say they’re busier than ever. “Even in the internet age, reference librarians still dig up answers that require extra effort, searching old books, microfilm and paper files, looking for everything from owners of long-defunct firms to 19th-century weather reports.” (Can’t read the full post? Click over through the link in this tweet.)

• What Flannery O’Connor college journal reveals. “But the young woman of 18 writing in the journal knows none of this. What she knows is that she wants to succeed as an artist, but she is filled with self-doubt…”

• 7 cosy-casual outfits for late fall/early winter. I love Emily’s style.

• On unread books. “Good libraries hold several millions of books: even if we read a book a day, we would read only 365 a year, around 3,600 in ten years, and between the ages of ten and eighty we’ll have read only 25,200. A trifle.”

Favorite instagram:

Is November always this beautiful? This week sure has been. This snap is from Tuesday’s mental health break. Follow me on instagram @annebogel. (And join in our #12daysofbookstagram challenge!)

On the blog:

One year ago: 7 tips for raising kids who love to read. (Plus the books my kids are loving right now.)

Two years ago: A few November favorite things. It was so fun to browse through this list of 9 things this morning, because I still love (and use and listen to and drink) each and every one.

Three years ago: On showing up. I was just talking about this with a friend this week. (This is perhaps one of my favorite things I’ve written.)

Four years ago: My favorite Thanksgiving movie (that you’ve never heard of).

Five years ago: Paper Gains: A Guide to Gifting Children Great Books from Modern Mrs Darcy.

Six years ago: A new Advent tradition that might actually work for my family. Our literary Christmas countdown.

Have a great weekend!

This is a fantastic list of links! I squealed in delight at the Wall Street Journal article on reference librarians. I guess I’m just tired of doomsayers predicting the “end of libraries/end of books”! Never!
