You all are good people to know. Stitch Fix sent me a gorgeous dress in my November fix, but I wasn’t quite sure about how to style it for winter festivities. So what’s a girl to do?
Ask the readers over on the MMD facebook page, of course!
Your suggestions were excellent. (How did I not know I could buy fleece-lined tights? Brilliant!) So I styled it up with cozy grey tights, black riding boots, and this statement necklace.
I’ve only had this dress a few weeks, but it’s already been to church, the ballet, and an office party. I think the next step is to experiment with some wilder colors and patterns for the tights. (Any suggestions?)
While Will was already taking my picture in the cold, he snapped a few photos of other duds Stitch Fix has sent me lately.
41 Hawthorn cashmere sweater, Just Black skinnies (remarkably similar to these, no?), leather tote (shown here)
Daniel Rainn heart print blouse, Kensie skinnies, and I’m holding a Tea and Rose cardigan (shown here) that I quite possibly have worn a hundred times since I got it last fall in one of my very first fixes
Ezra mixed knit striped top, Kensie skinnies
Y’all are a wealth of information, and not just about fashion. Recently you’ve helped me figure out what Christmas movies won’t terrify my kids, what remedies to try for Sarah’s horribly dry skin, and what to give a girlfriend for Christmas.
You may have heard that Facebook has made some changes recently. The upshot for blogs like this one is that less than 5% of MMD fans see blog posts in their news feed, so the best way to keep up with new posts is still to subscribe by email or use a feed reader like Feedly or Bloglovin’. But I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how many of you still see these conversations and can chime in.

Seriously thinking about doing Stitch Fix myself. Your LBD is great. I’m petite, though, and so often I end up with clothes that are wrong for me in cut.
Hannah, I’m tall, and I experience a variation of the same problem. The waistlines and sleeves tend to hit at horribly awkward places!
Ugh! It pays to be “average size” I guess. 🙂
Oh my goodness, that dress looks fabulous on you – what a lovely ensemble!
Love all the outfits. And my goodness, you are so beautiful! A huge inspiration to me, mom to a toddler and pregnant with #2, to spend a little more time on hair/makeup and a little less time in my typical sweats/t-shirt ensemble!
Aw, thanks so much! (Please remember I got to delete the terrible photos before I put these up on the blog. 🙂 )
Super cute styling of the dress! I’m not sure what else you could experiment with….maybe a deep red or maroon with the same black boots. Something black or gray with a really small pattern? The ballet….did you go to The Nutcracker, by chance? 🙂 Who made the fleece tights you like? They sound like they would look really thick, but they just look like normal tights.
I just type in M in my browser and up pops Modern Mrs. Darcy!
Yes, the Nutcracker! It’s become a family tradition. And I like the maroon idea. 🙂
I can’t read the label on my tights! I’ll see who made them next time I’m in Nordstrom Rack.
I finally got into Nordstrom Rack to check: my tights are made by Legale. I can’t find the exact thing online, but they’re similar to these and they were $10.
There are fleece-lined tights?? I’ve got to go find a pair! Maybe I won’t have to wear jeans over my tights when I go outside now. XD
On that note, that dress really is amazing. Maybe one day when I have some extra cash I’ll look into Stitch Fix.
Love that dress. Why not try purple tights? Or a gray textured pair?
I almost went with purple! If I’d realized how little leg would show between the dress and the boot, I would have felt more confident making a bolder choice. 🙂
Your fixes make me smile and only a little jealous 😉 And Fleece Lined Tights? I think I need to invest, I do live in Michigan after all.
Brrr. 🙂
Inquiring minds want to know (since I just discovered fleece-lined tights myself – they made my stocking stuffer list!)… did you buy them and if so, are they actually warmer and do they stay up???
Yes! But I can’t read the label. Let me run into Nordstrom Rack next time I’m there and see if I can find the brand for you. 🙂
Okay, I ran into Nordstrom Rack: they’re “plush-lined tights” from Legale. Similar to these, but mine aren’t called “leggings” and they were $10, not $34!
Oh my gosh – so I put these (meaning fleece tights) on my Christmas wish list, but Peter had already finished his shopping. However, Christmas morning he was laughing all the way to the bank as I received two pairs!!! He is such a good man (and better still – he purchased them – from Amazon – before he ever saw my list. He knows me so well!). I am in LOVE! Wore a pair on Sunday and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them.
That’s wonderful about the tights and I’m super impressed with Peter! Yay and yay!
Cute dress! Try purple or maroon, or emerald green after the holidays. If you’re feeling more daring, try one of those colors underneath black lace tights.
Great dress! I just got an e-mail that my next Fix has been shipped! I joined awhile back thanks to your recommendation and just love it!! I noticed recently that you also wrote about Tog + Porter. I’m thinking I may want to try that too in the new year… If I keep reading I may never have to go to the dreaded mall again!
I realize this is an old post, but what brand is that dress? It is gorgeous!
