a lifestyle blog for book lovers

After we shared our 2020 gift guide for book lovers, we knew we didn’t want to leave bookish kids out of the gift-giving fun.

Today we’ve got a great selection of bookish gifts for kids who love to read. This list includes gifts I’ve given and ones my own kids have received over the years, gifts I’m planning on giving this year, and gifts I wish I had a reason to give this year.

I hope you enjoy perusing this guide, and I hope you’ll share your favorite bookish gifts for kid readers in comments.

All gifts featured here were chosen because we love them. If you buy something through our retail links, we may earn an affiliate commission. More info here.

“From the Library of” stamp

I dreamed about having a personalized library stamp when I was a kid. This is such a pretty design!

Seasons Readings socks

Cozy socks are the perfect accompaniment for winter break reading! I might need a pair for myself.

Vashti Harrison art prints

Vashti Harrison’s art prints are so cute! Weekend Goals, pictured here, is amazing and I also love Borrow.

Personalized pencils

You can put your child’s name on pencils—or maybe a family catchphrase. The possibilities and the color choices are endless!

Reading Bean

No more struggling to hold up that heavy book while you read! Rest the book on this handy reading bean instead. It can also be used for gaming, propping up an e-reader, or even as a travel pillow.

Journals

My kids are forever stealing my journals (and pens and rainbow post-its…) so I might as well give them their own. Although this Twain Traveler’s Notebook could be a beautiful “you’re getting so grown up” adultish gift for a teen.

Galison Just My Type 100 piece mini-puzzle

This mini-puzzle is darling! And at only 100 pieces, a great option for a kid to do on their own or for a family to see how fast they can put it together.

Book Cover t-shirt

Out of Print has a ton of great book cover t-shirts, like Where The Wild Things Are. Surprise your child with a t-shirt for their favorite book.

Puffin in Bloom Collection

Build your kid’s library with a wonderful collection, like Puffin in Bloom. This is just one of many beautiful children’s box sets.

Mark-My Time Digital Bookmark

A great option for kids who have required reading time! This digital bookmark takes the work out of daily reading homework and encourages kids to make reading a fun daily habit.

Word games

We’re big fans of word games like Taboo at our house. The kids have been playing for years! Scrabble and Apples to Apples are also great options.

Bookish t-shirt

There are so many amazing bookish tees out there. This Anne of Green Gables squad t-shirt caught my eye for an older kid.

Rattan Floating Bookshelves

Floating bookshelves are a wonderful touch for any kid’s room. Perfect for displaying books, of course, but any number of other treasures.

100 Books Scratch Off Poster

Read your way through 100 books and scratch off as you go to reveal the artwork. It includes classics like James and the Giant Peach and contemporary works like The Hunger Games.

Personal library kit

This is seriously a go-to gift for us and it ranks as one of my kids’ favorite literary gifts, ever.

Happy shopping, and happy reading!

I got library stamps for my three kids for Christmas a few years ago and they loved them! It was a great gift! A kindle paperwhite is also a great gift.

Thanks for sharing these! I just went and ordered a few for some kids in my life. Still debating the library cards- I know my kids would love it but I worry about “ruining” books.

Please help! A couple of weeks ago you posted a link to a paper store is Chicago that also had tons of neat gifts. I thought I had saved the email but now I can’t find it. Can anyone remember the name of the store?

My son has been collecting the Barnes & Noble Leatherbound Classics since he was about 10. He is now 24, still collecting and has a gorgeous bookshelf of them!😍

  5. I am quite literally swooning. Inspired on your previous post, I searched on Etsy for somebody who could do personalised book plates for my daughter and came up with a fantastic artist. It’s a really good way to support artists during these difficult times too 🙂

I just bought the Library stamp for my adult son who is a pastor. He often buys theology books that he wants to hold on to, but he’ll loan them to interns and other pastors. I think he’ll love this. I ordered the EX LIBRIS style; I thought it sounded more official for his theology library.
    Thanks!

Thanks for the recommendations! Just ordered a Reading Bean and also one of their cute zippered book bags. Really cute and practical 😊

The best gift to give a child who enjoys books are BOOKS! The Puffin in Bloom collection is a fantastic idea (thank you!). If I can find something that teaches and entertains my children I consider it a win. The main goal this Christmas is to find books that are enjoyable but teach an important lesson too. 2020 has been difficult to say the least and I think teaching children about kindness, friendship and problem solving is a must. Our favorite book so far this year has been “Mia and Nattie One Great Team” by Marlene Bell (https://www.marlenembell.com). It’s a great picture book based on a real experience the author had with a little lamb she nursed back to health. I have been telling all my friends about it. Thank you again and Happy Holidays!

We gave the library box to our two grandsons for Christmas this year. We celebrated last weekend, and it was one of their favorite gifts.
