Readers, today I’m kicking off a new Instagram challenge—my first—and you’re invited to join us.
On Monday I recorded my new 1 Hour to a Better #bookstagram class. (Although, full disclosure: the actual class is not one hour, but 100 minutes long.) My goal was to pack as much information as we possibly could into one class—and based on your feedback, I think we did it. We covered Instagram and #bookstagram basics, the many bookish communities you’ll find there, basic photography skills, my personal processes, and tips for taking your account to the next level.
But the best way to improve at almost anything is practice. So starting today, we’ll be celebrating #12daysofbookstagram on Instagram, and you’re ALL invited to join in the readerly fun.
If you’re unfamiliar with Instagram challenges, here’s how it works: we’ll all share a picture every day based on the prompts above. Post a photo from your reading life, along with that day’s theme. Be sure to use the #12daysofbookstagram hashtag so we can share in each others’ bookish enthusiasm. Feel free to save the graphic below (or copy or re-gram it from my Instagram account) and share it on your Instagram feed to invite your fellow readers to join you.
Want to learn the ins and outs of #bookstagram? The class is now for sale in the shop for $15. The class is 100 minutes long, and includes the slides, a list of additional resources, and unlimited access to the class recording, so you can learn when you want and how many times you want. (If you’re an MMD Book Club member, you already have free access.)
Readers, this is going to be fun. Thanks for joining me. Happy #bookstagramming, and happy reading!

Fun! I’ll join in. Will you explain some of these before the day arrives? (I’m not sure what “flat lay” means. An open book?)
Ooh, so timely for me. I haven’t used instagram much and what I do post is often books. This is a great way for me to become a more savvy #bookstagrammer. Thanks for the tips!
Anne, I just ordered your bookstagram class and am wondering how to access it? Does it take a while to come to me once I’ve ordered and paid? If so, it’s no big deal. I guess I’m just used to “instant everything” I expected to get an email or a download right away. Just let me know please…thanks!
Lisa, I think we got this straightened out via email. If I’m wrong, please contact support at [email protected]. Thanks!
Yes, thank you! I have already been able to take the class and really enjoyed it.
What do you mean by “more than books”?
Include something that’s not just books in your photo. Get creative. (Or not. 🙂 )
I want to join in but my account is private so you won’t see my photos!
I just wanted to say how much I loved this class. I’ve been a bookstagrammer for about a month (https://www.instagram.com/adventures.in.stories), mostly because I was seeking an extra bit of beauty in my life. I have found my tribe here, and your class just confirmed it. It was such a great introduction to the community, and I would really encourage everyone to join in on the fun. If you’re afraid to jump in, this class is s a perfect way to see if it is right for you!
I’m so glad to hear it!
