For your summer reading: win a Kindle Paperwhite and cover.

Good news, readers. Summer is right around the corner (and the Summer Reading Guide is coming this week!), so to get us all in the spirit today I’m giving away a Kindle Paperwhite and a custom pencil pouch from Lucy Jane Totes to carry it in.

One of my big goals here at Modern Mrs Darcy is to make it easy for you to find and read good books. I’ve been sharing daily Kindle deals on the blog since July 2014, because I understand that many of you are in the same boat as me: if you paid full price for every title that caught your eye you’d be broke.

That’s why every morning I hand-select 5-7 new deals for this list: books I personally love, or books I think many of you will be interested in. They come straight to your inbox every morning. I don’t accept paid placements for this list, just books I love or suspect you’ll be happy to find.

You don’t need a Kindle to read Kindle deals books, or any Kindle books: you can download Amazon’s Kindle app here and read Kindle books on most devices, including desktop computers, smart phones, and tablets.

But it’s so nice to have a Kindle—especially for the summer. If you’ve ever dragged five hardcovers to the beach (raises hand) or accidentally splashed a library paperback by the pool (ahem) you know what I’m talking about. My Paperwhite has absolutely been worth the money—but wouldn’t it be nice to get one for free?

That’s why today I’m giving away a Kindle Paperwhite to one subscriber on the Kindle deals list. (Current subscribers are automatically entered.)

The Paperwhite is snazzier than Amazon’s basic Kindles. You can hold it in one hand, charge it monthly (not daily), read it in bright sunlight, and read it before bed without disturbing your sleep. It’s built for reading: there’s no email, apps, or social media to distract you.

Lucy Jane Totes pencil pouches are one of my favorite things, and are perfectly sized to hold the Paperwhite (or your lipstick, notepaper, pencils, and pens). Shop owner Kim Vanslambrook created a “sleep less read more” kindle cover for the lucky winner. (Visit the shop here to check out her summer selection, especially the giant beach bags.)

I have a 2nd generation Kindle that has seen better days, but keeps on trucking! It would be so nice to win a Paperwhite, especially when my daughter wants to read something on the Kindle. I’m not very good at sharing, especially when books are involved. ;-). I’m anxiously awaiting the new summer reading guide!

Just subscribed yesterday and I’m so excited to get the reading ideas. The painting above looks just like our beach on 30A. And right after that thought passed through my head I see the Lucy Jane part of the giveaway. I love her totes which I discovered when I met Kim on that beach this spring. This is a happy surprise in my inbox today.

Your Paperwhite must have a much better battery than mine. I get about five hours reading with a full charge. I believe it’s one generation prior to the present. If anyone has any tips on preserving power with a Paperwhite I’d be glad to hear them!

I don’t know about a monthly charge, but I definitely get weekly now that I figured out how to turn on airplane mode. The thing searching for a wireless signal (or using one) drained the battery really quick.

I also have it on the lowest glow setting that still allows me to see, which seemed to help a lot. And I bought a case that has the magnetic auto turn on and off if you open or shut it. Maybe try those?

Oops. Something went wrong. Please try again later.

I tried to enter on both forms and received an error message both times.

Thanks for this. I don’t own a Kindle but I have the app on my phone and have enjoyed your daily kindle deals! A Kindle device is on my wish list for my 40th birthday!

  6. Chris says:

I love your blog, your kindle daily deals, the podcast, etc. so many good books you recommend and not enough time to read them all! Just want to confirm that I don’t have to enter if I am already subscribed the the Kindle Daily Deals email?

  7. Christine says:

Curious what the small, round item is in the photo above that says “Read Harder”? Is it a candle? And is it related to the Book Riot Read Harder challenge?

  8. Lori says:

So guilty of lugging all my paperback books on vacation. Reading on my tablet isn’t my favorite, but I think the paperwhite might change my mind!

  9. Liza says:

My Kindle bit the dust (3rd gen? The last one before the fire and the touchscreen ones first came out.) I haven’t bought a new one yet because I didn’t use the old one enough to justify the cost of a new one. But I do have a lot of books on kindle. I usually read on my phone but I get headaches after a while. The dedicated reading device is much better to use.

Love all your reading recommendations and WSIRN podcast. I tell everyone that even I have nothing in common with the guest (besides our humanity and the fact that we read), it’s a great listen and guide because I can know why to pass on a book and move on to something else. So many books, so little time, and you help me not to waste a minute of it! Would love to have the Paperwhite for reading on the go!

  11. Paige says:

What an amazing giveaway! I am already subscribed to the list. I am so thankful to you for compiling the list daily. I have bought many books from your emails and am ready for my summer reading! Fingers crossed for a paper white! I have a first generation kindle, and love it, but an upgrade would be amazing!

Thanks for all the great info you send us.
Checked my email and there was info on whispersync!
I decided to take the plunge and give it a try , downloading the app was painless.
    Purchased my first whispersync book.
Thanks again for all your ifo.
I gota go and listen to my new book!
(when We Were The Kennedys) WHOT WHOT!

  13. Kim Jackson says:

I am getting errors on both here & the subscription site. :/ I get the kindle emails & the blog posts, but don’t think I get the newsletter yet, please sign me up for it.

A retiring (as in no more work) librarian (45 years in the field) loves your blog…such helpful suggestions. My daughters loved the information on free audio-books! I have shared your blog with teachers at my school!

  15. Seasonsd says:

What a cool opportunity! I’m a high school English teacher, and I would kill to have a paperwhite at my disposal. 🙂 Thank you for making this possible!

  16. Beth says:

I have a Kindle Fire, which is great, BUT it’s not great for reading outside, which is a huge bummer during the warm months. I’ve definitely eye-balled the Paperwhite a lot. Thanks for the chance to win!

  17. Maria D. says:

Hooray! I’ve actually been a long-time (lurking) subscriber through Blogger, but went ahead and subscribed via email today. 🙂 I’ve just recently warmed up to the idea of e-readers, and one like the Paperwhite- without all the bells and whistles- sounds ideal for me! Thanks for the great giveaway and all the work you do on the blog!

  18. Brittany M says:

I have my fingers crossed for this one! I love to read and I try to get my 3 year old into it too. He loves going to the library and leaving with a stack of books. Thanks for this chance to win!

  19. Esther says:

We currently have a Nook and a Kindle Fire, but are planning on switching the Nook out for a Kindle. Since it will be primarily for reading for the kids, I can’t quite figure out the best Kindle for the job. Any ideas? The biggest concerns are no access to the Internet, but the ability to download books via Overdrive without having to plug the Kindle into the computer for a USB transfer. Thanks so much!!

    • Anne says:

With no wifi access either? Because wifi would make the transfer simple.

Amazon does sell a kindle paperwhite that (for a significant amount extra) delivers books via 3G, and amazon picks up the cost for that. And I haven’t begun to investigate their brand new kindle (voyager?) so I’m not sure what’s different about that one.

  20. Michelle Kopacz says:

Has the winner been chosen? My vision is declining and owning a Kindle would be glorious! Thank you for offering this opportunity to us 🙂
