The Progress I Made Because of This Blog, and Because of You. (2013 Goal Update)

my-goals-for-2013-updateThis year I’m posting regular updates on my progress towards my 2013 goals.

Dear Readers, thank you. You know I think you’re wonderful, but today I think you’re wonderful in a new way: I’m extremely grateful for your accountability!

Because I was planning on blogging this update, I did a whole slew of things I wouldn’t have done otherwise:

I checked the status of our savings progress: we’re 19% complete. I tinkered with our budget and spent half an hour reviewing our overall financial plan.

I signed up for a new yoga course. Jen Hoffman just opened a new class in her Stay-At-Home Yoga studio: it’s called Yoga for Desk Jockeys, and it’s exactly what I need.

I rowed a 2k to check my progress. (Most of my training is intervals and tempo rows; I rarely row the actual distance.) Right now my 2k PR is 9:08.3; I’m gunning for an 8:30. My 500m PR stands at 204:7, a 5 second improvement over last month.

I made green smoothies, four leaf clover pancakes, and a big bowl of kiwi for St. Patrick’s Day breakfast. I never would have done this if celebrating special breakfasts wasn’t a goal!

I ordered prints from York Photo (on March 28, just in time to meet my goal of printing photos quarterly) and a big canvas from Canvas People, because of my goal to be a better memory keeper.

Thanks for keeping me on track. I sure needed it!

How are you coming on your 2013 goals?

Your goal of printing pictures actually reminded me that I needed to print some. And then I discovered that I don’t have hardly any pictures from this winter, so I’m going to try and take more pictures this month. 🙂
Also, reading your blog has given me so many book suggestions that I’ve only gotten partway into my reading list because I’ve been so busy reading suggestions I found on your blog! 😉 I’m back into reading a LOT and I’m really glad about it, so thanks for the great book suggestions.

Jessica, I absolutely relate to that. I panicked for a minute when I went to order pictures because there just weren’t enough! But then I emptied them off my phone and it wasn’t as bad as all that.

I’m so glad to hear you’re finding good reads!

Way to go on getting closer to your savings goals! I am really close to crossing a big item off my list as we inch towards wrapping up a much-needed remodel of the house. I’ve been thinking of my goals in terms of monthly projects, but I need to assess some longer-term things that I can break into smaller pieces for my monthly goals. (I actually started a monthly goals link-up if you’d like to join – it’s here: http://www.beautyschooldropout.net/?p=1990)

I would like to better understand your rowing goal and how you track it. I’m new into rowing and while I’m enjoying it, all of the numbers and tracking are scaring me a bit. I feel like I need the dummy course. Any helpful hints?

    • Anne says:

Tara, I do it the dummy way! I have a C2 rower that has a little monitor on it that tells me time, distance, pace, etc. I keep a super-simple log of my workouts and current personal best times. And then when I have any questions, I head over to the forums at the concept2.com site.

Yay for goals!!! I rowed for 1600m the other day and almost died… I can’t imagine trying to row a meter more than that, so I’m not sure how you survived the 2k 😉 I think I may totally steal your goal of printing off photos every quarter – great idea!

I pressed enter too soon because I should be asleep right now…

Thanks for sharing your goals and letting us “hold you accountable.” It’s such a brave thing to do!

This post just reminded me i have not been keeping up with all goals i set for this year. I also have not printed the photos i was supposed to print SO i have made a note to review goals and print photo’s. I love that you talk about books, i have a book blog myself where i review books if you want the link i am happy to share, i have not included it in the post because i do not want to look like i am spamming.

    Thanks for the Goals reminder!
