Tea snobs adore Rishi Tea for their organic, fair trade teas and blends.
Their predictable best sellers are Jasmine Pearl, Earl Grey, and Masala Chai–all classics, no doubt.
But my very favorite Rishi tea is their turmeric ginger herbal blend. There’s nothing else like it.
I know, it sounds weird. This is not the flavor you instinctively reach for when you spot it on the grocery store shelf. This zesty blend–composed of ginger, turmeric, licorice, and citrus–isn’t for everyone. Tea drinkers either love it or hate it.
Ginger gives this tea a serious bite, and turmeric colors it a gorgeous golden yellow. (Apparently many people drink this tea for the health benefits of the turmeric and ginger. That’s a nice bonus, but it’s not why I drink it.)
Turmeric ginger has its share of raving fans. If you suspect you could be one of them, I suggest picking up a box from Amazon or Whole Foods. If you like it, order more in bulk directly from Rishi, where the price per ounce is much lower.
If you’d like to try a more crowd-pleasing blend, I recommend the tangerine ginger. But if you want to stick with the cult favorite, turmeric ginger is the one for you.
Are you a tea snob? What’s your favorite tea?

We used to order from The Republic of Tea. great stuff, but we weren’t drinking enough to keep ordering more.
I tried this when I visited you, yes? I remember loving whatever tea it was.
I don’t think I’m a tea snob but I sure do drink a lot of it. I have my preferences, sure, but I won’t judge anyone for drinking Lipton. Yet.
I am totally a tea snob. I have my (strong) preferences for blends from Harney & Sons, the Republic of Tea and Taylors of Harrogate. But I’ve never tried Rishi Tea – yet.
I’m kind of a tea snob, not so much with the brand, but with the way it’s prepared. My favorite brand is Red Rose, or Harney & Sons for fancy times.
While I used to be a big tea snob (as in drinking only Harney & Sons), my snobbery switched to just organic teas now. So, I visit local herb shops for blends that they sell or I make my own blends. I am really big on iced organic teas now. I like to know I am getting the maximum nutrients from what I drink!
I’m in the UK, where tea is the stuff that keeps you alive hour after hour rather than a ‘herbal experience’, and my personal staple is the bog standard dark tea from PG Tips.
If I want to be fancy, I do dig out the jasmine tea with jasmine petals in it, it’s lovely. The Tea House shop in London’s Covent Gaden is a mecca for loose leaves tea and beautiful tea pots
I’m with you Pauline! PG Tips is my tea of choice. Eight years in the UK spoiled me.
I learnt to love tea a couple years ago and almost only drink unflavored tea. I strongly prefer green to black tea, and the classic Asian Sencha and Bencha are some of my favorites (they are everyday tea) !
I used to be a bigger tea snob, but these days I take it however I can get it. I do ten times prefer loose leaf, though (and STRONG – my husband and I tried some Harney & Sons English Breakfast, but when you have to add twice as much as recommended just for a decent flavor and strength, it’s so not worth it). I don’t know if it’s even possible to go back to bagged once you’ve tried loose leaf.
I have to be careful about the type of citrus I eat (or drink). Lemon/lime is fine, but anything orange or tangerine is out. I can’t even drink Earl Grey anymore without getting migraines. So no turmeric ginger or tangerine ginger for me!
ooh tough call. fave for morning – twinning’s black currant, fave for afternoon – tazo zen, fave “expensive tea” – teavana gyokuro imperial
I don’t think I quite qualify as a snob, but I only buy loose teas for home and tagless teabags that aren’t individually wrapped for work–except if I’m buying an herbal tea for medicinal use and it only comes wrapped, i.e. Traditional Medicinals–so that all the waste is easily composted.
My favorite tea ever is Pineapple Ginger Green Tea from The Republic of Tea.
I’m also a big fan of rooibos a/k/a red tea. I wrote about it in my article on unusual, nutritious foods.
I am a tea snob with a capital T! I could never drink my hot tea bagged ever again and I refuse to settle for even sub par loose leaf. Most big name shops aren’t to my liking though Rishi is a really great shop and has some really cool stuff, it’s just not my speed. It is the easiest place to get Pu-erh cakes, though. I love my favorite local shop from when I lived in Georgia, http://www.aristeacrats.com/ My favorite flavors are mulled spice teas and Pu-erhs!!
I’ve never heard of mulled-spice tea! Sounds divine.
It’s rare and the one shop I loved that had it isn’t selling it anymore but it tastes like a mix between hot cider and a rich black tea. I’m looking for some more or I may have to start experimenting with making my own.
