a lifestyle blog for book lovers
Coming to terms with winter now that the holidays are over | Modern Mrs Darcy

My favorite finds from around the web:

Most anticipated: the Great 2017 Book Preview. I look forward to this post every year.

Sweater 101: Keeping them happy, fresh, and pill-free between washes. Needed advice for my neglected sweaters. Also: permission to go a month between washings.

The way each Myers-Briggs personality type feels about reading. Irresistible, if maybe not quite entirely accurate.

Be more productive in 2017: Climb your mountains on Monday morning. Love this, and definitely trying it next Monday morning.

Don’t miss:

Every morning I find that day’s best kindle deals, and they have been smoking lately. Holiday deals were predictably terrific, but it’s January and they just keep coming. View today’s list here, and sign up on the page if you’d like to get the deals list in your inbox every morning.

What you need to know: This list is editorially driven: I choose what I love, and what I think you will love. No paid placements here. I don’t set the prices (alas!); Amazon does, and sometimes they change unpredictably. And that adorable pouch is from Lucy Jane Totes.

On the blog:

One year ago: The 100 hour rule. “It may take 10,000 hours to develop mastery, but in many fields, we don’t need mastery. We don’t need to achieve elite status; we need competence. And it takes a fraction of those 10,000 hours to attain it.”

Two years ago: The real genius of the crock pot (and my favorite slow cooker recipes).

Three years ago: My not-so-secret love of “fluffy” books.

Four years ago: Dressing for the ordinary days.

Five years ago: The 6 smartest things I did in 2011. This was fun to look back on. (#2: start a blog!)

Have a great weekend!

Donna Leon is a favorite of mine. The series builds upon itself, much like Inspector Gamache. They just get better and better. You’re in for a treat.

Of course I went straight for the link about Meyers Briggs…and then straight to my type: “may like subjects like historical fiction…often spend their days learning about important practical subjects…they can become engrossed in a story that they feel connected to.” Um…did they break into my house and creep all over my bookshelf??? HAH!

  3. Great post on dressing for ordinary days. I’ve been having the same experience recently (even down to my 3 yr old asking me if I was going somewhere one day when I dried my hair). It’s amazing how much more confident, productive, creative, and disciplined you feel when you take the extra 10 minutes to blow dry your hair and put on basic make-up. Totally worth it!
