Happy New Year! (And a quick look back at 2014.)

Thanks for a wonderful year here at MMD.

We covered a lot of ground here this year. Here’s a quick look back at what we’ve talked about:

I don’t even know where to start with the book posts! We discussed the thirty year rule, books worth binge-reading, and how to keep a great series from ruining your life.

The 2014 summer reading guide was a big hit, as was the first-ever autumn reading list.  We snooped other people’s bookshelves and shared what we’ve been reading lately.

How rare is a great marriage? | Modern Mrs Darcy

We talked about the four possible levels of relationship, Monica Geller as friendship role model, and the rarity (or not?) of a great marriage. I wrote about my own adolescent marriage when Will and I celebrated 14 years together in June.

take-the-long-way-home

Some days we got philosophical: we talked about spinning out, taking the long way home, and the spiritual discipline of the long walk. I shared 5 words you need to practice saying out loud, and why it’s worth thinking about your dream job.

I talked about my time in the waiting room, and the importance of showing up for the people we love, and your comments made me cry.

closet full of stripes

For beauty and style: we talked about people who wear the same thing every day, how to ruin a perfectly good outfit, and my favorite $3 lipstick.

Self-awareness makes everything better: on Myers-Briggs, the enneagram, and why personality tests are so important.

We talked about personality, one of my favorite geeky things: about highly sensitive people and people who have a long runway. We talked about personality types: Myers-Briggs and the enneagram and the Big 5.

We talked about practical stuff: I shared my favorite chocolate cake recipe, and our go-to special breakfast frittata. We talked about daily routines and managing our day-to-day. I shared our babysitter’s trick for faking a clean house.

moving day

My family moved this year, which spurred all kinds of posts. I talked about our decision to buy a house and a life, instead of just a house. I got a little overwhelmed and started angry cleaning. (And stress baking.) And I loved our new place but I hated to leave the library in my own backyard.

Thanks again for a terrific year! I’m looking forward to what’s in store for 2015. Happy New Year!

I must say that your pictures make me happy. Your book pictures are always gorgeous and I love the French press picture. And…I want to go on a drive. I have only been following your blog for a month or 2, it looks like you have given me some reading for today. These posts look great!
