The Blue Bistro

The Blue Bistro

$7.99$4.99

Within hours of arriving on Nantucket, Adrienne lands a job at The Blue Bistro, its acclaimed oceanside restaurant. Over the course of the summer, she falls in love, endures family drama, and confronts a medical mystery, but the real star of this book is the restaurant itself. Hilderbrand’s tales from the belly of a fabulous summer hotspot are riveting and realistic: you’ll find yourself rooting for Adrienne as she figures out how to survive in the cutthroat setting. Warning: all that great food on the page will make you hungry. Hilderbrand is queen of the summer novel; this is one of her best.

From Booklist: "Hilderbrand's third Nantucket-set novel effectively juxtaposes the surface calm of the season with the turbulence of the characters' lives. More entertaining beach reading from the author of The Beach Club and Nantucket Nights."

Here’s to Us

Here’s to Us

Hilderbrand has been called the queen of the summer read, thanks to her large catalog of novels set on Nantucket. Her last novel, The Rumor, was my favorite of hers to date so I have high hopes for this summer's release. This novel revolves around a pricey piece of Nantucket real estate, the death of its celebrity chef owner, and the drama that ensues when he leaves the residence to his three spouses, current and former. Hilderbrand literally writes her novels by the pool (longhand, on legal pads): maybe that's her secret for perfectly capturing the island setting down to the tiniest detail? Publication date June 14 2016.

Silver Girl

Silver Girl

This was the first novel I read by Hilderbrand, queen of the summer beach read. After the feds haul her husband off to jail, the wife of a Ponzi schemer (think a younger Bernie Madoff) retreats to Nantucket to put her life back together.

The Identicals

The Identicals

When they were 17, Harper and Tabitha's parents divorced. Tabitha went with her mom to Nantucket; Harper went with her dad to Martha's Vineyard. Now 39, the twins haven't spoken in years, and each has heaps of her own troubles—love, family, work, you name it. For reasons that are easy to read but hard to explain, the twins end up trading islands to work through the latest crisis. Imagine a grown-up take on The Parent Trap, with a lot more twin troubles and a lot fewer tween giggles. They call Nantucket native Elin Hilderbrand queen of the summer novel for a reason; the islands themselves have so much personality in these pages that it feels like very realistic escapist fiction. Publication date: June 13.

The Castaways

The Castaways

$7.99$3.99

From Summer Reading Guide author, Elin Hilderbrand. Publishers Weekly describes the Castaways as a "close-knit group of four successful Nantucket couples. Greg and Tess MacAvoy had what everybody wanted. Or so it seems to Delilah Drake, the voluptuous bon vivant Castaway married to staid farmer Jeffrey. But when Greg and Tess sail to Martha's Vineyard to celebrate their anniversary and mysteriously drown, their deaths stir up more secrets than there are tourists on the island's golden beaches. Hilderbrand goes deep into each of the surviving Castaways' hearts, revealing old affairs and new entanglements." The publisher says, "Hilderbrand masterfully weaves an intense tale of love and loyalty set against the backdrop of endless summer island life."

And now that Renata is on Nantucket visiting the family of her new fiancé, she takes the opportunity, against her father's wishes, to contact Marguerite in hopes of learning the story of her mother's life—and death. But the events of the day spiral hopelessly out of control for both women, and nothing ends up as planned. Welcome to The Love Season—a story that embraces the charming, pristine island of Nantucket, as well as Manhattan, Paris and Morocco."

28 Summers

28 Summers

The premise is guaranteed to make some readers mad, but the execution sucked me right in: At the request of his dying mother Mallory, Link places a call and is shocked when Jake McCloud answers. Link knows who Jake is: his wife is expected to be elected president in the upcoming 2020 election. But how could Jake possibly know his mother? Well. Unbeknownst to Link and almost everyone else, Jake and Mallory have a history. When they first met on Nantucket in 1993, they decided to borrow the premise of the film Same Time, Next Year for their own relationship, and have since spent 28 Labor Day weekends together on the island, despite marriage, children, and everything else. An exploration of love in all its forms that pushes readers to ask What if...? This would make a fabulous book club selection—there’s so much to talk about.

Nantucket Nights

Nantucket Nights

From the publisher: "The ties between women can run as deep as the ocean--but so can the secrets. For 20 years, Kayla, Antoinette and Val have performed their own special summer ritual. Once a year, the old friends put aside their daily, separate lives to drink champagne, swap stories and swim naked under the Nantucket stars. But on one of those bonding nights, one of their trio swims out from the shore and doesn't return. After the surviving friends emerge from their grief, they realize that the repercussions of their loss go far beyond their little circle, and they begin to uncover layers of secrets--and their connections to each other--that were never revealed on the beach. What has made their friendship strong now has the power to destroy--their marriages, families, even themselves."

The Rumor

The Rumor

Nantucket novelist Madeline King is on deadline but has a huge case of writer's block: she needs a story for her next novel, and she needs it fast. Then her best friend Grace starts crushing on her handsome landscape architect. Madeline knows a good story when she sees it, and her novel practically writes itself. I loved Hilderbrand's comments about this novel at BEA: she said that because she was intimately familiar with writer's block, she had no trouble at all writing this novel. Writers will note that all the publishing industry details are spot-on. My favorite Hilderbrand so far.

The Hotel Nantucket

The Hotel Nantucket

The titular hotel’s Gilded Age glory days are long gone: it’s a real dump (and in a fun plot twist—haunted!) when London billionaire Xavier Darling buys it sight unseen. The new owner hires local restaurateur Lizbet Keaton to make his hotel the best property on the island, if not the whole Eastern seaboard. And that means The Hotel Nantucket has to wow Shelly Carpenter, the influencer who’s become a national obsession for her blog Hotel Confidential. The influential critic regularly reviews hotels for her eighteen million followers and awards each property anywhere from one to five keys. The staff is energized by this audacious goal, because no hotel has ever earned five keys from Shelly Carpenter. To earn the coveted fifth key, they’ll have to do everything right. Hilderbrand’s beach reads are always enjoyable but this one is notable for introducing me to a new favorite pen.
