a lifestyle blog for book lovers

A new look for Modern Mrs Darcy

As you can see, Modern Mrs Darcy got a face lift today.

I’m a little nervous to put this out there: every time one of my favorite blogs changes I gasp and cry and think I’ll never get used to it. (Forty-eight hours later, I can never remember what it looked like before. I hope that’s your experience here!)

This has been a long time coming. I hope you didn’t give up on me, because it was all the way back in August when I asked you what would make this site more user-friendly for you.

Every update was made with that in mind: I hope you find MMD simpler to use, easier to navigate (especially on mobile), and a happier place to hang out for a while.

But technology is fickle, and I’m sure there will be kinks to work out. If the site is cranky for you, would you let me know? And rest easy: we’re working diligently to make sure everything is working smoothly as soon as possible.

Some pages are still in progress: most notably, the card catalog. But it will be complete soon, and it’s gonna be awesome.

In the meantime, enjoy poking around. (The circulation desk! Spiffed-up Kindle deals!) I’m excited to finally throw the doors open and welcome you into this new space. Thanks for coming and thank you for reading, truly.

I love it!!! Love the card catalog! You’ve combined books, calligraphy, and my second favorite color into my favorite blog. Perfection. And I noted on facebook and will repeat here – I first clicked over on my phone and it was SO EASY to read. Love that!

It’s always tough to transition to a new looking site, but yours looks great! There is a weird flickering on the bottom area of my screen on your site, but I know your bugs will be worked out! TGIF! Congrats on the great looking site 🙂

I LOVE it! It looks great on my laptop and my iPhone! What a great update!

It is a bit slow/jerky with the bloglovin header, but I think most sites are and as soon as I closed that, it was great!

Love it!!! Just cause I know I will want honest feedback when I do this one day… two little things. I LOVE the card catalog but the button gets a bit lost in the ads? And also the top header keeps popping down in to posts and comments? Such a fun update!!

  6. Usually I cringe as I click through on these kinds of news because I almost never like the new one as much as I liked the old one but yours?

    YOURS IS FABULOUS!!!

I love the blue boards of the background. I love your categories, I love the top navigation and the one just underneath, I love how you’ve filed everything, and now you’ve inspired me to re-look my very clumsy website.

    Great, great job!

Your new layout/format/design/whateverwordIshouldbeusinghere LOOKS FANTASTIC! I loved it when I first headed here from your latest email newsletter & I can’t wait to look around. Congrats on a beautiful and savvy update!

    It’s beautiful!
I’m a mobile reader, and my only issue with it is that when I scroll up while reading, the banner takes up half the page. Most likely not a problem for many, but I’m easily distracted and often find myself thinking, “wait, what did I just read?” and having to scroll back up and reread.

I LOVE the new site! Oh my goodness it’s so fun to browse around. It looks amazing and is so easy to navigate. Super pumped to be here and for you in this new season. 🙂

    Just love your look!!!
All new to me as I’ve only just found your blog again(found it along time back and then lost it) anyhow excited read from another blogger who writes book reviews, off to read in your library:)

I’m a long-time reader, but usually read via Feedly on my ipad, so was just checking out the new look on my computer now. It is gorgeous — I especially love the main background of the turquoise wall with the stacked books! My gripe is that the header pops down any time I scroll even halfway up, which is WAY too touchy and annoying for me. I’d love it if the header wouldn’t pop unless you really got to the top of the page. Congratulations — this is a huge undertaking!
