I can’t even say anything about this heat. You know it’s bad when you breathe a sigh of relief that it’s “only” supposed to be 93 on the 4th of July.
Patriotic movies for the 4th of July
If this oppressive heat continues, a good bet for the 4th of July might just be staying inside and watching a movie in air-conditioned comfort. Here are a few of my favorites (and one that I hate).
Miracle. The true story of how the underdog American ice hockey team beat the previously undefeated Soviet team to win gold in the 1980 Winter Olympics.
The Sandlot. This 1962 is full of classic Americana, and even features a scene where the boys play baseball by the light of Fourth of July fireworks. (I hate this movie, but I know many of you love it.)
Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. Smalltown scoutmaster Jimmy Stewart is chosen to fill a vacant Senate seat so he can blindly do the bidding of the corrupted senior senator from his state. But Stewart foils their plan from the moment he arrives in Washington: he’s determined to serve the people. Congress wasn’t happy about the way Frank Capra portrayed them in this 1939 classic, but audiences continue to love it.
National Treasure. Nicholas Cage and company go on a treasure hunt to find his family’s buried secrets. But to find the treasure, they have to steal the Declaration of Independence. This film makes history fun–even before they start improvising.
A Jackie Kennedy-inspired summer party
I love this fun Fourth of July party plan inspired by iconic hostess Jackie Kennedy.
The secret to a great pedicure
It took me years to figure out that the key to a great pedicure isn’t about the nail polish. It’s about how your feet look, and unless you tend to your toes and the rest of your feet, your pedicure is going to look amateur (as mine often does). Go here to find out how to get a professional look at home, and use the suggested shortcuts if you only have a few minutes to spare.
If you need ideas for polish colors, there are some great ones in this post.
